Urgent- USCIS number and speaking to a human- how?

How in satans name do you actually speak to a person on the 800-375-5283 number?

 

I gave up calling these clowns long ago but today - and I cannot emphasise how urgent this is - I need to contact them and speak to a human rather than the cheesey automated voice.

 

 After putting in the receipt number and it reciting the usual 2 year out of date info, it says call back between 8am and 6pm.

It is gone 10am on the east coast. 

 

The combo that used to work of 1-2-2-2 gives an error on the last digit, and a walk-in infopass at a service centre is not an option today, and from past experience they will not see me as a walk-in anyway.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the combo I used the other week. 1-2-1 (receipt number)-3 and then you'll be talking to their customer service

How to talk to a live person at USCIS?

Contact the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) at 1-800-375-5283.

Call early in the morning (8.00 am)

Option 1: Then dial 1, 2, 6, 2, 4 (exact sequence). Use these options every time you are prompted.

(You can also try - 1 - 2 - 1 - Case Number - 1 - 3 - 3 or 4)

Option 2: Call USCIS and Do not press anything (don't choose a language). They will think you have a rotary phone and will transfer you directly to a live person.

Option 3: Don't don’t choose the number for “case status”, but do different ones instead (for example “RFE”; “expedite your case”, …)

Option 4: Military Help Line: 1-877-CIS-4MIL (1-877-247-4645); Members of the military and their families may call to receive assistance with immigration-related questions.

If they speak Spanish just say English please. Now you can ask what you want.

 

Another method:

 

1. Dial the number.

2. Once it starts ringing, don't touch the phone, punch no buttons.

3. After 2 to 5 minutes, you'll be transferred to a Spanish Speaker.

4. Let the Spanish Speaker wind down, then Say, "English Please".

5. Once he/she gives the same spill in English, pose your question or ask to be transferred to an ISO, a Tier 2 Human.

When my husband called he always used the last method of just dialing the number and wait for someone to pick up and start speaking Spanish and then ask for English.

What nonsense has USCIS pulled on you this time, mindthegap? I hope you're OK!

May i know how you called USCIS? I used Skype phone, and i happened to select a west coast number as my skype number AND USCIS used that number that to indicate that I should be dialing the number at 8am pacific time! 

It annoyed me so much.

OK, the speak to a human option finally went live at midday.

I got through, escalated, and awaiting a callback via their automated system - although last time if I remember correctly they didnt bother calling back!

Actually this may be why I got no option to speak to a person!

 

I am on the east coast right now but have several phone numbers  - the one I was calling USCIS from is a 213 (old skool Los Angeles) code so it may have seeing that and thinking I was on the left coast.

This is how I've done it. Call back, pick the option to change address/update info/info has changed.....you will get a level 1 person, tell that person you need a level 2 IO. Orrrrrr you can ask them to put in a service request for a call back from a level 2 because you have not been able to get one for days or the hold time is hours and hours (no joke, it was 6hr at one point last year). It will show in your online USCIS portal as request for notice not received....I actually got an after hours call back using that method around 9pm at night.

Er, no....If outside of the opening time period - according to the number you are calling from -  that does not work, and the option to speak to someone does not appear any other way. I tried about fifty different combinations.

When within the opening hours it does work, and the option does appear - option 3 as mentioned by someone above.

Alright, always works for me anyway. They always ask for my receipt number and I just pretend I don't have it and then I automatically get to speak to a real person. Maybe I've just been lucky in calling on the right time then.

Honestly, I always just keep bashing 0 until it starts ringing somebody. I think I got the same prompt a few times in a row, but eventually it gave up and took me to a generic CSR who then directed my call.

I got through almost immediately by dialing the number and not hitting a single button afterward. Various automated prompts in both English and Spanish will come up but eventually a Spanish speaking rep will pick up and you can say "English Please". Oh yeah, and this call was made in the middle of the day during operating hours.
