Hi everyone! I got accepted in San Jacinto Community College and a long time friend from the US will be sponsoring me. I have just received ny I-20. I have just got back from the UAE and worked there for two years. I have been to 4 other asian countries as a tourist. What do you think my chances are to get approved for the F1 visa? Do you think the chances to get denied are high because I just came from the UAE as a worker?

The UAE work will not impact your F1.

What matters are your academic interests in this college. They don't want the F1 to be an excuse for you to move to the US. They also need proof that you are able to pay for college+living and that you won't be working outside of college because it is not allowed.

I don't know about being sponsored financially by someone who is not your parents or yourself. That could be tricky. Someone on VJ got denied the F1 because they thought it was a strange set up. The sponsors were a couple who said the guy was like their child (you can search for that) and he got denied. I think he got denied because everything seemed like an excuse for this couple to have the guy in the US, and there wasn't a true academic interest.

So you might want to have an answer as to why you want to go to community college in the US instead of studying somewhere else. What is your relationship with the sponsor. Etc.
