I have my interview on Thursday the 19th. I have read many threads concerning the wonderful treatment of people by the staff in Montreal. I have discussed the way I will handle myself with my wife ( Cutie ) seeing I have a low tolerence for stupid people especially power hungry " wanna bees ".

Any suggestions?

Just suck it up and bite your tongue if you get the nasty lady. You don't want to rock the boat there.

Then after Visa is in hand you are safely the US, write a long complaint letter, emails and make phone calls.

Its understandable, If I had a horrible experience with that Montreal lady like another poster talked about, Mel would want to go down and tear into her. Which is fine, just wait until I am safely in the US!

TOTALLY agree with Stacey. Play dumb if necessary, allow them to show off and be obnoxious... and then, visa in hand, send letter to the Consul General himself (I think it's a guy) with copy to everyone including the HR department at the Consulate. AFTER you have that visa!!!!

Good luck in the interview!!!!!

I don't understand, bein gin the military, you should be used to some of that type of people already, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

When my wife and I were treated so badly and then denied, we just bit our tongue after we tried unsuccessfully for the entire "interview" to let her know she was not understanding our case. That's probably the best advice I can give. No matter how bad they treat you, just take it with a smile and hope they give you the visa. If they don't, at least you won't have to worry about someone having a vendetta against you when you're trying to clear up any errors. Good luck!

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

i really felt that going through the lower level security was much like going through US airport security.. Grit your teeth & bear it. Follow the "what to bring what not to bring" list to a tee. Don't bring a purse - park a car or use the cafe closeby to stash your stuff.. It's just easier and faster that way.

Best of luck!

You know I just thought of something. No, they can't deny a visa for yelling at security. HOWEVER, security can bar you from entering the building and have the power to remove you, thus screwing up your interview since you wouldn't be there to attend it and you'd end up be marked down as a psycho (:P) or as a no show... Both things are BAD!

ok you guys are gonna laugh at this ..............speaking of airport security.............many moons ago my husband took a second job on the weekends since he was posted in Ottawa he had a cushy office job and didnt work weekends........and it helped getting away from the ex wife....anyway......

guess what it was .........AIRPORT SECURITY!!!!!!!!!! He said the only people he treated badly were those who were rude to him for the sake of it.

anyway I thought it was worth a chuckle.

Flames .........this base is the first posting in his career where he has been treated poorly. He's been lucky I spose.

Hehe, yah, I have the personality where I just wanna challenge people who are being rude for no reason. So I'm gonna have to dig my nails into my arm or something for the interview stage. I'd be so tempted to reply, "No, I don't want your job. I simply want you to do it well and give a #######." But that'd probably turn out badly.
