Preliminary Approval and Wait Time

Hello everyone!

My fiancee had her interview at the consulate in Guangzhou back on July 13th. She received preliminary approval, and we needed to submit more documents. Some of those needed to be signed originals, so I had to send them out from the US. Those arrived to her last week on July 21st. We then had to wait over the weekend in order to send everything through her local CITIC bank branch (in addition to those documents, she also needed to send her passport). We sent everything in on Monday, July 24th. We waited several days watching the tracking page for date of the last case update to change. Thursday rolled around, and we sent the consulate and inquiry. They responded the same day and said they hadn't received our stuff yet (the date did update at that point to July 27th, but we assumed that was because of the answer they sent us, not because they actually received anything).

Friday, July 28th, though, we did see the case date of the last case update change, so we're assuming things arrived; I plan to send another inquiry on Monday to be doubly sure.

We're wondering about wait time, though. For those of you who experienced a similar situation, how long after the consulate received your extra documentation did you wait if the result of the interview was preliminary approval?

Any insight you can give us is extremely appreciated!

Thank you so much in advance!

No one can say for sure when you will get your visa. Each case is different as well as each Embassy. Normal processing time is 2-3 weeks but I have seen some take longer, as in months.  Just have a little more patience. You're almost there.

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you for your insight, Greenbaum!

We actually saw another update over night (Sunday, July 30th), which we found kind of strange given it's currently the weekend. Maybe that's an indicator things are continuing to move in the right direction!

Thank you again!!

That maybe Friday's upload that made it move on the weekend. We have seen it before.

The case reopened. It changed from Administrative Processing to Application Received; the date the case was created was changed from what it was in May to yesterday, and the case update date was changed to today.

Is this a sign their actively working on the case? It looks like this is the status when the case is first ready for interviews but says if no interview is required, to check back in two days.
