Settling in US, via Canada/Australia

Hi,

Presently I am in Bangalore, un-married with 12 years of work experience in network testing.

My long term goal is to settle in US.  As there is lucky draw every year for that.  Instead of waiting on fortune, I plan to work in Canada/Australia till that time.  I have IELTS score of 7.0.  Please help me in resolve my questions

1. Is it not a good idea to work in Canada/Australia till I get US Visa.  Or should I concentrate only on US

2. What would be good option to work. Either Canada or Australia.

Thanks in advance

yuva.

Canada or Australia sound good.

May be more practical than the US.

Australia and Canada are really good places to live. If you can live in Australia I don't see why you'd like to live in the US, unless you have family in the US. A lot of people have the idea of the US from the movies and it is not like the movies. I live in the US because of the work that I do. If I could have the same job in another country, I'd move.

Sir, Job opportunities for my working domain are more in US, compared to other countries.  So, I preferred US.

If I move to Canada/Australia, will I be eligible to apply for US as an Indian.  Please tell what difference would it make "applying for US as an Indian from India", "applying for US as an Indian from Canada/Australia".

Thanks

Doesn't matter where you live. If you are native of India you are applying as an Indian.

If you get Citizenship of Canada or Australia other options do open, quite common.

While there are jobs in the networking area in the US, there are many people available. Many jobs do not require bachelors degrees and do not qualify for green card sponsorship. You are likely to have difficulty qualifying for a green card.  It is far easier to obtain a guest worker visa than to convert it to permanent residency.

(My son is a very senior level network support engineer at a major company; his company has no positions in the US at this time for someone in this area.)
