I wanted to know how to get your hands on a police certificate in each country you've stayed in excluding the one you're currently in. My fiance and I have recieved our approval notice (NOA2) and I wanted to know what I needed before I get to the interview stage at the US consulate. Thanks in advance

Congrats on the NOA2...

Just to clarify..the police certificates are for the beneficiary - but you knew that right?

The good news is, for the US, you'll not need one (can't get one anyway), but I'm not sure what you mean when you say "each country you stayed in 'excluding' the one you're currently in..." what do you mean by this?

Each country is a bit different in exactly where you get them, but essentially you request one from each - if you could elaborate the countries, perhaps someone from each one will pop in... ;)

p.s.

Sorry, to clarify I am the benficiary. I've lived in Australia, Kuwait, Grenada and the US since the age of 16. I currently live in Australia so I'll obviously need one from here but the US, Kuwait and Grenada??

Grenada:

POLICE RECORD

Available from the Commissioner of Police, Police Headquarters, St. George's, Grenada. Application must be accompanied by a set of fingerprints and three passport-size photographs. Fee: EC $10.00

Kuwait: (Don't bother, they are not available outside of that country and the consulates know this example: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/pbcerts.html )

POLICE RECORD

Police records are available for persons resident in Kuwait. Individuals must be physically present in Kuwait and either be Kuwaiti citizens or hold a valid residence visa to apply for a police certificate. Police records are not available for periods of residence prior to May 1991, due to the destruction of these records during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Information on criminal activity, including police records, is not available from Kuwaiti embassies abroad. To obtain a police record, individuals must apply in person and provide fingerprints at the Ministry of Interior, General Department for Criminal Investigation. Police certificates generally take seven to ten days to process.

Australia:

POLICE RECORD

Available. Includes nationwide fingerprint check.

Procedures to be followed for visa applicants both inside and outside the country who wish to obtain clearances:

Inside: The applicant may write or apply in person to have his/her fingerprints taken at the City Police Station, London Circuit. Canberra, Act 2601. Telephone no. (02) 6256-7777.

Outside: Applicant must write the station with a formal request, using the forms on the AFP website http://www.afp.gov.au . Applicants must go to a local police station in their country of residence, acquire a certified fingerprint form, and send this with an official request to the City Police Station.

USA: All petitions processed by USCIS, NVC and Consulate get routine name checks from the US government (FBI) so you don't need to get a police record from the USA

A timeline, and filling in the details in your profile greatly help people answer your questions.

There is a list somewhere in cyber space called "reciprocity list" or something to that effect that tells you exactly which countries and which authorities provide you with those certificates - google it. I think it's part of the DOHS website, or USCIS. not sure.

The police certificates are for places where you lived for more than six months, and I think it's after you were 18 but not sure on this last piece. Hope this helps.
