is ending your vacation a day early and a 2 5 hour car ride too much to ask you to do for a greencard? the vacation is really worth more than getting residency? more so the vacation is voluntary and you have already proved to them you know you have the letter so you would have a very hard time trying to get sympathy from them if your not able to get them done.

This.

Do you really prioritize a vacation over having official residency in the United States? Is it really worth screwing up the appointment for an extra day of entertainment?

The part that confuses me is why it has to be either or? If OP has already received the letter and already knows they will be away for the appointment, just reschedule. The 2.5 hour drive at a later, rescheduled date seems much less of an inconvenience/let down/stressor than having to adjust the long-awaited travel plans. If walk-in prior to the trip does not work then waiting to try in Seattle -- at which point it'll be too late to send the notice back to reschedule if doing this fails -- seems so unnecessarily stressful. But that's just me.

I remember we had to drive 3 hours for biometrics and 10 hours for naturalization. Tennessee is a very long state.

I had to drive from AR to TN to get mine done. AR is divided in half, my side goes to TN and the Western side goes to AR. It is what it is. If it were me, I'd reschedule, and go where you are meant to. If you wait until you are in WA, and they won't take you, what then? I wouldn't put my future at risk doing that.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Then I reschedule it like the letter says?

Yes, it is what it is.

We never messed around with immigration. We were just too happy to get each step done. It was inconvenient. And like with naturalization we had to drive the 9 hours all through the night. But that was our priority. We jumped through whatever hoop we had to, on time, to get it done. We were just happy we had the opportunity.

I agree that to reschedule sounds like the best option, considering your circumstances. Two hours would even be a good deal, to me, considering what you are trying to accomplish.

Great, thanks. I'll look through it now.

The service center in Seattle is a 20 minute uber ride. The service center near me in IL is a 1 hour 20 min drive so it's actually better to have my biometrics done in Seattle.

Where are you living ? I do uber and i live in Chicago. PM me with your area and if i get around you i can let you know :)

There's no way for me to get there. My wife works during the day and takes our only car. I don't know what to do :/

Just a question. Do you have a license from the United Kingdom?

I know my husband can drive on his Australian license while he I-94 is valid. He drives me to work everyday so he can use the car for errands. Unfortunately this will only work while for another month because of the I-94 expiration and when he gets his EAD he will renew his US license. I believe some countries you have a window on time where your license can be used in the US. I would imagine the United Kingdom would be one of them. It might be something to look into.

Oh that's cool. I was unaware of that.

My i-94 expired back in April though so I'm not sure I'd be allowed to drive anymore.

I just looked it up. The US has the same agreement with the UK it has with Australia. The license are valid in each other's countries for a period of time. I read it is up to one year but I am not sure it that is completely accurate.

It's a bit confusing. I read it's up to a year as well. I also read it's up to 90 days for residents, but I'm not a resident yet so I guess mine is valid for a year since my entry?

Hopefully it is, then I can just get my Illinois licence when I get my EAD

Make sure they really mean residents. Because my Swedish license was only valid for 90 days when I was an Au Pair meaning I would live in the US for at least a year.

I was under the impression that my husband could only drive for 90 days on his Australian license as well. 90 days is also when his I-94 expires.

Which also makes sense because that is the length of there typical visitors visa.
