Just received my biometrics appointment letter:

It is scheduled at a USCIS center that is 2 hours away from me. There is a USCIS center that is only an hour away from me. I have no one that can drive me that far away and I dont how I'm going to get there.

Also it is on August 11th. I will be on vacation in Seattle August 4th - 11th.

Is it possible to change my USCIS center to the closer one?

Was a stressful journey full of ups and downs, cya in 2020 VJ. I'll be back when it's time to begin the dreaded I-751. Biggest advice - make sure you have a TON of evidence, be completely honest and you'll be fine. Good luck everyone! =)

Awesome. Hope it works out for you!

Jesus, I got a REALLY pissy tier 2 lady on the phone.

I told her the woman who transferred me to her said it would be fine to attend another service center at the same time.

She was like "WHO THE HELL TOLD YOU THAT?! DID U GET HER NAME? YOU NEED TO GO TO THE SERVICE CENTER THAT HAS YOUR JURISDICTION. IF YOU DO THAT YOU ARE VIOLATING THE RULES"

She went off on a rant and was really pissed. She said, you need to follow the instructions on the appointment notice and reschedule the appointment by sending it to the address on the letter.

Tldr; going to another service center is extremely bad and I can get in trouble for it...

I don't think you'd get in trouble for it, however they'd probably tell you that you can't do your biometrics there.

Unfortunately it looks like you'll have to do the two hour drive. Which sucks since biometrics takes literally 5 minutes.

I'm in Seattle august 11th, which is when my appointment is. I'm going to try and take an Uber there and see if they'll see me.

A lot of people have had success with early walk-ins, but some do get turned away. There's no harm in trying if it isn't a huge hassle. If it is a hassle, might just be best to reschedule it. Tier 2 isn't going to tell you to go somewhere other than where and when you're scheduled to go, and they're generally pissy. I usually just hung up on them when they immediately copped a major attitude and just called back. Don't let the experience put you off you from inquiring about any future issues. Sometimes you do get someone pleasant and helpful. :)

Thanks, I probably wouldn't have called again if you said that.

The whole situation scared me and I was worried she'd deny my application if I said something wrong :D

My USCIS center is in IL, but I'll be in seattle, washington on my appointment date. Do you think I should go to the center at my exact appointment date? Or should I go to the appointment whenever is convenient for me?

Try going early to see if they'll take you. If they turn you away, you have some time to reschedule it and figure it out after Seattle.

Here's another thread where someone went to a different location for biometrics with success (as well as some people in the comments mentioning success): http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/331022-can-i-go-to-a-different-uscis-office-for-biometrics/

There is no guarantee that they'll take you, but I'd at least try.

Great, thanks. I'll look through it now.

The service center in Seattle is a 20 minute uber ride. The service center near me in IL is a 1 hour 20 min drive so it's actually better to have my biometrics done in Seattle.

You can try an early walk-in in Seattle, but if you get turned away, it's usually not the best situation to miss the appointment you do have. I wouldn't personally wait until the 11th for the Seattle walk-in simply because that's the date for your appointment. If it doesn't work out, you have no way of making it to the selected location, and then what? USCIS won't accept "I was on vacation" as an excuse for missing biometrics.

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

Okay, I'll try walking in on either the Tuesday or Wednesday, which is the 8th or 9th. What should I do if they turn me away?
