China Hukou issue after become US Citizen

Hello Guys.

Recently I have been hearing a lot of rumors about the China Hukou issue. I heard that once you become a US citizen and holding a US passport,  when you trying leave China and get back to U.S, you will be forced to terminate your Chinese Hukou, the China custom will not let you leave the country unless you do so. is this true? if it is, I still have property under my name in China. will this affect it in any way? Does China have any laws confirming this? I'm really confused and worried.

It will be interesting to see what real life experiences of other members are concerning this.  As you know their is no dual citizenship allowed in China.  I think China would benefit from a cultural change in this area, but China has always been the center of the universe nationally.  My wife is concerned with this problem and has continued with the green card for that reason.

Your hukou CAN be revoked, however, that is an extreme measure, even for someone who attains U.S. citizenship. It HAS been known to happen to new American citizens. I don't think we've heard of a case where someone lost their hukou due to obtaining a green card.

 

They are mainly concerned with those who are tying to expropriate wealth out of the country.

 

Property ownership in China is not affected by obtaining foreign residence or citizenship, or by abandonment of your hukou.
