Hi there:

I'm about to submit my I-485 next week (based on EB2 employment). Initially I was planning to submit the I765 with the I-485 filing, but I decided against it. I would like to run my reasoning by you all to see if this makes sense:

I'm currently on H1B, which expires July 2018 and I intend to maintain until my GC is issued. When I apply for my EAD via I765 with the I-485 filing, I may get my EAD in 3 months (so roughly Nov 1), and this EAD would be valid for 1 year (expires on Oct 31, 2018). However, when I apply for my EAD later, say 3 months before my H1B status expires, the EAD will be issued roughly around the time my H1B is expired (Jul 2018) and will be valid until roughly end of Jun 2019. The benefits of this would be twofold:

1) I would not have to pay any extension fees for the EAD until at least Jun 2019.

2) I would have some added security in case the H1B extension in Jul 2018 is delayed for any reason (of course, I hope by then I'm already granted my greencard:)

Thanks for your views!
