Fiancé went to do her medical yesterday and today in anticipation of her interview next week.....Well my fiancé just got the dreaded," 2 month sputum" order after going back on day 2 today...  we are very sad....

she has to go back in 2 weeks to do a 3 consecutive day sputum collection.....

i am very aware of this procedure as I work in  the medical field....sux that it takes so long in the philippines .

Can be done on average of 42 days here ..

oh oh well now looking forward to the results at the end of. November

target date interview now last week November 1st week December

hope to get her here before Christmas

Did you cancel your current interview date?

Yes , we did ..

also asked for extension since on our NOA2 it states that our timeframe is from August to November , but the lady said it's ok just call to make interview appointment once the medical is clear, as they will see she has been on "sputum protocol"

USEM extends the validity of the petition for up to a year automatically ... never an issue with that.

I did see that the new TB testing is becoming available October 1st ... only requires blood testing, may want to inquire on that AFTER October 1st (would require paying the new (higher) medical fee probably)

Ahhh good idea.... when she goes for sputum test,I told her to ask if she comes back after Oct and takes blood test and new medical if she has to , and the blood test comes back negative for TB ,can they clear her  then,,,...I'd be happy to pay another fee if it saves us 2 months..

thanks good info

That was my thinking.. get results in 24 hrs, no harm in asking.   And yup I am sure they will want MORE money...

Apparently when you undergo the sputum test and even if the smear and culture test came came back negative you get the annotation on your passport indicating MED: CLASS B. This means that we will have to undergo another round of medical evaluation a few weeks after arrival. I read from previous posts about Medical class b annotation that there were some who were even required to undergo the 6 month treatment though optional.

I thought the additional testing was done for those that had completed DOT, not for those with a negative SPUTUM culture.

That's what I thought too. But I've read a few threads about Class B annotation and a few mentioned the repeat medical eval.

Also found this from the CDC website

Notifications and Follow-Up on Arrival https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/yellowbook/2018/advising-travelers-with-specific-needs/newly-arrived-immigrants-refugees

Quote

The results of the immigrant medical exam are collected at US ports of entry when immigrants and refugees arrive. CDC then notifies state or local health departments of all arriving refugees, as well as immigrants with notifiable class A (with waiver) and class B conditions who may need follow-up evaluation after arrival. State and local health departments are asked to report follow-up evaluation results back to CDC, as well as any serious conditions of public health concern identified among recently arrived immigrants and refugees. Such reporting enables CDC to track epidemiologic patterns of disease in recently arrived immigrants and refugees and allows for monitoring of the quality of the overseas medical examinations.

I know there has been an increase in TB incidents in the USA, so I would guess CDC is "raising the bar" accordingly.

Probably. There's one member on here who Pmd me and shared his experienced with his wife (beneficiary) who also had a class b annotation. They underwent multiple evaluation. It was cancer. A lobe had to be remove from her lungs. But it seems like she's doing fine.
