I don't do corn dogs but omg the state fair in Milwaukee has some awesome fried cheese curds!(among some other good stuff).

I used to like all the deep fried mars bars oreos that kinda stuff too but I don't do it anymore because well just way too unhealthy.

I have a thing for cheese curds too..

It's one of the things I miss from A&W in the states. In Canada they don't have it.

With the love for cheese in our household, we should thank God every day for not making us lactose intolerant.

Yes they do and Frenchy's Poutinery in Windsor gets first crack at the curds. Frenchy's makes the best poutine I've ever had.

They should know about Frenchy's, I think everyone in Windsor does. Went to frenchy's for the first time about 4 years ago and I make sure we go there every time we go back.

Okay two answers to Frenchy's ( cant argue against it as I have not tried but French fries and gravy really get me revved) Wolf and the Hound in Vancouver ( Kitsilano) for the classic and Fines Poutines Plus in Montreal ...you want to jump the shark ask for Poutine et Pogo ( Pogo = corn dog) and head back to the hotel to sleep it off .

Call me crazy but I still like my Poutine with Spaghetti sauce which is not necessarily Poutine but when you have cheddar cheese and chorizo in poutine what the heck is now adays?

The best curds (deep fried or not) are hands down Beecher's out of Seattle.

All this but no mention of Poutineville in Montreal?

Anyways, its funny because I love the A&W cheese curds but I can't stand poutine.

Been to the Poutineville next to Jean Talon, but it was some time ago. nice and clean and organized, but who wants that when you are eating food that you should be ashamed of?

Your aversion to Poutine is rational.  Ingesting that much carb and fat is not normal.  A&W has curds?  Must be Canada only.

Anyways, cheese curds are actually decent in carbs, and generally have at least a 3:1 ratio of protein to carb, meaning good calories. The fat content in it is irrelevant.. the body utilizes that as energy. Non-fried curds are actually loaded with HDL which is good cholesterol. (the A&W ones I talk about are of course loaded with saturated fat ie LDL), but I almost never eat these so I'm not worried about my cholesterol levels changing.

A lot of people worry about fat in their diet but don't understand that the carbs they do consume (people generally only need around 20-50g of carbs per day, yet most Americans eat 100-800g a day), the liver converts that to fat anyways. There's this perception that consuming fat makes you fat.. totally wrong. I would recommend everyone read this:

Time to stop talking about low-fat, say HSPH nutrition experts

It is time to end the low-fat myth, Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) nutrition experts told food industry leaders at the seventh annual World of Healthy Flavors Conference held in Napa, CA, from January 19 to 21, 2011. The conference, co-hosted by the Culinary Institute of America and HSPH, brings together nutrition researchers with representatives from schools, supermarkets, and food industry goliaths such as Burger King, The Olive Garden, and Panera Bread to share strategies for offering Americans healthier menu options.

HSPH nutrition department chair Walter Willett and associate professor of epidemiology Dariush Mozaffarian, along with Ron Krauss of Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, presented on the “Focus on Fat” panel. They encouraged audience members to avoid “low-fat” terminology and thinking, since diets low in fat are often high in sodium and carbohydrates from sources such as white flour and rice, refined snacks, and sugary drinks. Instead, the panelists said, chefs should focus on cutting trans fats from their menus and educating consumers about seeking out healthy fats.

While curds aren't as low in carbs as block cheese typically is, the significantly higher amounts of protein definitely offset that.

Of course, in poutine, it's the fries and gravy that one needs to worry about.

I can't edit my post anymore but I think I see where the cheese curd in Canada thing might have made people think I said Canada has no cheese curds. To clarify on that post, I meant the US A&W serves cheese curds (breaded and fried), Canada A&W doesn't (yet they serve poutine, funny eh?).

A&W Canada also doesn't have the freezes, nor most of the soft serve options.. and hardly ever advertise their famous A&W floats.. don't have coney dogs.. it's like.. why even call yourself A&W?

I know we had this convo before but I completely agree. Carbs make you fat. Corn Syrup makes you fat. Fat doesn't necessarily make you fat.

Yeah. What fat can do is clog the arteries, particularly fat with bad cholesterol. And of course consumed in excess, and even more, coupled with carbs.

Before it gets stuck in arteries though fatty acids circulate throughout the body. They have ample time to be burned up as energy, but if the person never exercises and consumes significant amounts of carbs, there's no reason for the liver to force the body to utilize fat for energy. So eventually it just gets stuck in the arteries and calcifies.

I also do remember our nutrition discussions sort of. Fun times. ;)

Well and that's another thing even if something is listed as having no cholesterol doesn't mean it doesn't have a ton of stuff that can turn into cholesterol(by raising your LDL and lowering your HDL effectively). Such as trans fat.
