Has anyone ever gotten any EI when they have entered the USA of a K1 visa?

Thanks,

Carslo

AJMC and Susan+Mike are two from recent memory.. I'm a classic case of all NOT to do :) tee hee :)

Yahoooooooo....... I just checked the mail and my $$ finally got here. I got two checks covering a 4 week period and another two EI report cards which will also cover a 4 week period and bring me up to being a bit more current. They had my address really screwed up, I mean they had the zip code as the street # just for starters...... anyway I did phone last week to get it all corrected and the lady did the necessary changes on the computer as we talked. About two hours later I went online to the EI site and low and behold if they didn't have my apt # as 205 instead of 2005.........so I called her back the next morning again....... it is correct now finally. Any stuff I have received from them has taken about 2 weeks in the mail but I'm not sure if that is the normal timeframe or if it was because they had my address wrong. What have others experienced?

When I fill in my cards I do answer the one question about being ready, willing and capable of working each day as YES as K1 are work authorized. Immediately after I filed my claim online I mailed a copy of the SSA policy, a copy of my I-94, a copy of my marriage certificate and a copy of my visa. I never recieved anything from them asking about status or anything else. Then the waiting started.... like I posted before it took just over 6 weeks to be approved and that's when my two checks were sent out. Hope this helps and if anyone has more questions just be sure to post them.

Ya, i would get on the phone, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hopefully it will get resolved soon. Hey, you can always send them your EAD and AOS approvals too to PROVE that you are work authorised. :D

After your I-94 expires, you're still going to get cards. At that time you write in that no, you are not eligible to work. After getting your EAD or AOS you are to fax, or mail them a copy of your document, and from that date onward, you will fill in your cards that yes, you are looking for employment, and your money will then again be issued.

The women in Bellville (2 of them) are extremely helpful, and calling and leaving them a message always helps. They'll call you within 2 business days. Before my EI started, they called before mailing my letter out, to tell me their decision and start date of my claim.

I've found them extremely helpful, resourceful, and caring.

Not sure Carla if the office has changed since you've been there. I have NEVER received any documentation from their office (nothing saying aye or nay - only cards).. They only called once to tell me I was approved for benefits, and now they have apparently changed their tune! :)

I put another call into them this week. They said they would make a decision by the 18th and now it's the 25th. Perhaps they are overloaded with work right now, but it is irritating when any office says they will do something and they don't. I'll keep everyone posted!
