Thank you for your understanding and kind words............ very much appreciated. I hear you on the donut shop thing..... I can hear the shop owners........."here come those Canadian girls, eh"....... LOL

I'm off tomorrow for my Biometrics appointment in Oklahoma City........ the change of scenery will be nice.

Excellent!! Have fun.. that feels so much like progress when you go for your biometrics!! Remember no hand cream tomorrow am!! ;)

Did I mention that I messed up the appt. time.. I checked it 3-4 times and then I STILL had it wrong :) GAH! I managed to get there on time, but not before I ran around my apt. swearing and trying to find my purse and tear out the door!!

See now. I made that mistake so you will be there in LOADS of time :)

Alrighty, maybe someone can enlighten me. I'm on a K3 so I am not employment authorised until I receive my EAD. I applied for EI a little while ago since I know it's best to get into the system as soon as possible.

I received 2 things in the mail this week:

1. form asking me specific questions about my status in the U.S. and also asking for proof of employment authorisation

2. in a separate mailing I got my first set of cards

I know I can't send back the form until I get my EAD. Or should I send it back saying EAD is pending?

What do I do about the cards? Do I fill them out and send them back but indicating that I was not able to work during that time?

Also, does that mean my benefits only start when I get my EAD or does it go back to the start of my claim when I submit proof of employment authorisation?

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I have to write down that I was NOT able to work. Gah... stupid EAD. I'll call them anyway and return the cards.

Yeah gotta let em know whether you worked or not in the 2 week time frame the cards cover. When I was on EI I was allowed to work 1 shift in the steelmill without having to lose off my EI payment. Any more than the 1 shift and they deducted dollar for dollar

That was several yrs back though, things may have changed since then Maybe they allow more now

Hey Misa

1) I just filled out the form with "EAD Pending "and sent along my NOA1 proof

2) I just signed both cards ticked off the questions on the back and sent my cards in on the required dates.

apparently you have to show your proof of EAD before you can collect any $$$ . So here I wait for my EAD proof.

you have to be able and willing to work! without EAD you are not able to work.

hope this helps!

Thanks Denise. I'll do the same as you and whenever I get my EAD or Greencard (some people got their Greencard before their EAD!) I'll send it in.

Did you ever get your EAD biometrics appointment yet?

BLOWER! *&%#@*. I am not sure what the stall is...will keep ya posted!

Its a good thing I don't have a job lined up as of yet!

Get your AOS paperwork in! If you get it in now, you could conceivably get a biometrics appoint for that within a month and I think you can request to get your EAD biometrics done at the same time. Not 100% sure but I have seen people who have done that. I've also seen people who have had their I-485 approved before their I-765.

What does your online status say? Just that the I-765 was received? Any recent touches?

Well I mailed in my sheet and my cards yesterday. Indicated that my EAD was pending along with my NOA1s for AOS and EAD so that they don't close my case! Marked my cards that I was NOT able to work due to pending EAD.

Come on EAD...

As long as they receive cards on the return they'll issue the ones for the next 2 weeks covered. Your claim will be on going and any back money they owe they'll pay if qualified by them

Hi everyone, I decided to bump this and see if anyone out there knows the truth! I've read through the Canuck EI Thread and I'm still somewhat confused.......

I'm a K1 and entered the US 2 weeks ago. We had a small ceremony last week and I applied for AOS/EAD/AP 2 days ago. I started my EI claim and mailed them the following:

1) ROE

2) Copy of I-94

3) Copy of K1 visa

4) Copy of marriage certificate

5) Copy of section of Social Security website that states K1s are authorized to work w/ out specific authorization from INS

I'll mail them my NOA for the EAD as soon as I have it. My question isn't a new one around here: are K1s really entitled to benefits before they get their EAD? Are there any K1s out there receiving benefits right now? They mailed me a letter and asked if I had a working visa from the US which allows me to work. I said "yes." Is this right? They mailed me cards as well. Do I fill them out and send them?

I apologize if this is a redundant post....I've done as much research as I can on this and can't seem to find a straight answer. You guys are the best.......saved my a$$ many times! Thanks all.
