how long, after sending in all your paperwork, did it take for your EAD to be approved (sort of off topic here, but not really)?

80 something days for mine. It's usually about 90 days.

Mine was never approved!

I'm beginning to wonder about that...do they just abandon your EAD application if your AOS was approved???

I know I don't need it, but when you pay $180 for something you'd at least like some action on it....

How will receiving EI work when it comes tax time at yrs. end. I assume a Canadian tax form would be filed as the money was paid from Canada.

Does a person also have to claim the EI payments from Canada as income on a US tax filing. Just wondering how this works if I'm approved for EI

That Im not quite sure yet....all I know is that my accountant told me to file my US taxes normally, then to send it to him to make my canadian taxes since I worked in Canada for 4 months and got EI....

I am dumb with taxes so I am quite confused, I guess ill be asking a lot fo questions in Feb-March 2008

Yeah I'll be asking a lot of tax questions come that time too. I worked 2 months in Canada last yr. and I have a monthly company retirement pension payment being administered by a Canadian financial firm. They deposit each month and tax it in Canada

I don't know whether my company pension is US taxable I think it falls under a tax treaty the US and Canada have.

havent seen zyggy in ages. He was on that other immigration board

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Officially faxed my EAD to Melanie at the out of claim unit today

Weirdly 3 weeks ago they had send me back again all the cards from April 15th to July 29th and I have sent them back. Now my status on their website still shows that I havent filed a card since July 14, which is the previous card I have sent.

I'm gonna call on monday to make sure they have received my last cards and my fax, but does anyone know how long it takes for them to resume a claim and starts the payments again after you fax them the EAD/GC?

It took them about a month for them to re-instate my claim after sending a copy of my greencard.

I called about 2 weeks after sending it, and got the "it's in the queue" response.
