I applied for a lot of jobs online.. It's simple, takes very little time, and you can get yourself quite the list in a short amount of time :)

You applied without the stamp before you got your EAD??

Thats my question. Since I didnt get stamp I didnt see the point to apply for jobs I cant get anyways

And honestly no i cant find jobs online that easily in my fiels...its kinda a hard job to dig out because of the taboo around. I work in a animal research laboratory. Other than that I can apply in a vet hospital, which there is no way I can find 5 /week even if there is a lot around. I know they are missing a lot of employees and I dont want to deal with all these people calling me every week for a job and have to explain to them that I cant be hired or whatever, looks stupid IMO to apply knowing I cant get it. I wanted to wait till my EAD/GC not to messed up my chances to get a job, I dont see myself applying a secind time and say, oh this time its alright you can hire me....

Yes I did apply for jobs without the stamp. I already had a job offer that i was planning on taking, so i didn't follow up on any of the leads, but apply for work is one of the things you are required to do on EI. You could always apply for jobs that are out of your field if you are worried about messing up your chances later on.. I have seen others just apply for jobs and tell them that they are not available for work until EAD is granted which is another option too.. it may take several weeks to get a response from someone.. It's just the fact that you are looking.. documenting what you have been doing to look for work (sounds like you have been looking in the area and haven't found anything in your field - tell the that too!.. What I did was direct all feedback to my e-mail account. I didn't even give a telephone number on my resume. that's one way to do it so you are not having to answer telephone calls..

SAWEET!!!!! See you are well on your way!! :) Yipee!! it's pretty easy to get names.. There was a community based paper that came in the mail here as well to our mail box.. it was a freebie with classifieds but it really gave me a lot of names / e-mails to send resumes to :)

i've read most of this thread previously, and now it's my turn to apply for the bloody ei... my concern is how soon after quitting my job do i have to apply before they outright don't consider the application?

also, does your ROE HAVE to say that you quit because of getting married? i don't have mine in hand yet (my sister is mailing it to me), but from what she's told me, it says that i quit because of moving. is this sufficient? or will i have to try and get an amended ROE from my employer?

First contact: Oct 14/06

First meeting: Nov 6-13/06

Engaged: Dec 29/06

Moved to US: June 28/07

Married: July 14/07

As far as timeline I pulled this from the website - http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/en/ei/application/a...efits.shtml#how

How, where and when to apply

To find out if you can receive EI benefits, you must submit an application for EI on-line or in person at your Service Canada Centre, even if you receive or will receive money when you become unemployed.

You must request your Record of Employment (ROE) from your last employer. If you have your ROE from your last employer, apply immediately. If you did not receive your last ROE within 14 days of your last day of work, submit your application as soon as the 14 days are over, along with proof of employment — for example, pay stubs. If one or more ROE covering periods prior to your last employment are missing, you must still submit your claim for benefits.

If getting your ROE is a problem, your Service Canada Centre can help you. You will have to fill out a form "Request for Record of Employment" explaining what efforts you have made to obtain it. You will have to provide proof of your employment, such as: pay stubs, cancelled pay cheques, T4 slip, work schedules. If possible, we will use the proof to calculate your claim.

If you are applying for maternity, parental, compassionate care or sickness benefits, you should apply as soon as you stop working.

Delaying in filing your claim for benefits beyond 4 weeks after your last day of work may cause loss of benefits."

I applied a week after I left my job - but after I entered the US..

I would think you need the phrase "relocation for marriage" on the ROE. Remember your Employer also submits a copy to EI themselves so you can't just change the paper (wish it was that simple). They may just call your employer to get more details (I used to get calls all the time from EI office), if you tell them yes i moved but it was because of marriage.. they will probably want to confirm that with your former employer & will just call them (so make sure the payroll person/ HR person knows that.

Those are my thoughts.

MY ROE from the Armed Forces didnt say anything for the reason I quit!! Ijust included a cover letter when I mailed in the ROE and stated it was becuase of marriage I moved

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I just love how on the online status, it changes to fit for them...first it says by July 22...then they had to change it to "or the next business day" Uh ya, because July 22 is a Sunday! haha, and now, it's been changed to "as soon as possible" which in gov't speak means, "whenever we get around to it" or "as slow as possible"

im am doing applications for petco online right now and honestly I dont like it.

It asks for SSN as a required field. I don't know how it works here in the US, I see the SSN is used for many more things than in Canada, but I don't like to give it without a good reason. I don't think a job application is one and it should be given only if an employer has the intention of hiring me.

Second, I thought I could just attach my resume to it, but its asking for EVERY single phone number, address, name and even earnings!!!!! LIke ####### that's personnal and they dont need to know how much I was making to hire me. And its all required fields. Unless I just put 0000000 for whatever number they ask and add in the comments that my references are available upon request.

I think im just gonna post my resume by snail mail.....

-_-
