How about the 2 sample cover letters in the example forms? All you need to do is use them as a template and reword them to fit your case, it is mostly an itemized list of the packet contents, with the address of the service center at the top of it. Yes it is the non-us citizen who is petitioning to adjust their status, so they need to sign it.

I have never heard about Cover Letter till I came to this forum. Several of my friends have been approved already and they hae never wrote any cover letters. I asked them and they said that it's not necessary at all, only for your own records.

Does anyone have a sample for the AOS cover letter? I did not see a sample cover letter on VJ unlike other forms. Also since this is an AOS application for a non-US citizen, the cover letter must be signed by the non-US citizen. Correct?

I doubt it matters who signs it. It's been said that it's probably thrown away when they open the package and review it for the first time. So don't fret over who should sign.

A cover letter is required for a Visa application, because a lot of people on here have recently gone through the K-1 process assume a cover letter is required for AOS as well. It's not.

However, a cover letter is a good idea still, if only for your own uses as a checklist as to what goes into your AOS packet.

Rest assured, it doesn't matters who signs it!

Exactly what Dr_LHA said was our case... I could care less if they throw it away or not... but it was a great guide and check list and thanks to it I realized I was missing a G325A and photos.

Dr_LHA,

Yes. But not for the other folks who you've misinformed with your post and they don't know any better.

Dr_LHA,

No cover letter was required for - or provided with - my wife's visa application.

A cover letter is required for a Visa application.....

Bully for you.

I'm sure they will live. Its not like this thread was anything to do with filing a visa, anyway. My obviously mistaken information came this the I-129F guide on this site, and from an immigration lawyer who went to some pains to write such a cover letter for me way back in the depths of time.

Perhaps rather than wasting your time posting pithy, pedantic but ultimately pointless comments here, you can work with Ewok on correcting those guides.

A cover letter is NOT required, but it's a professional courtesy that will give USCIS an itemized list of what has been submitted. In hopes, they can quickly sort through your information faster and smoother. Nothing more... Nothing less...

Cheers!!!

Relax !!... it is not THAT big of a deal. If he had said they have to send a pound of cocaine with their AOS application then that would be a problem, but a cover letter is not that serious...
