I called NVC twice and was advised that a police certificate is NOT necessary for Haiti.

Is there anyone whose spouse is from Haiti and who was not required to submit a police certificate to NVC and at the interview?

Thank you.

I would obtain it just to cover all the bases.
The police clearence probably only costs $10 to $20 US.
A small price to pay for a smooth experience.

The cost is not the issue.

My wife tried to get the police certificate and was informed that she had to get a letter that states that she needs the police certificate.

I called NVC and was informed that it was not needed. That is why I am trying to reach out to those who are from HAITI to see if their spouses might have required to provide a police certificate.

Did they ask for the police certificate at the interview and did it have to be translated?

Thanks for your help.

Regarding translations it doesn't matter if it isn't in english and it is a birth certificate or a police report it needs translated. Obviously, if you don't feel you need police report by all means don't get one. To me wouldn't make sense to have everything you could need rather than run the risk you need it later?

That was the purpose of the initial post.

We did try to get the police certificate but DCPJ would not give it to my wife because they said that she needed a letter stating that it was she needed.

Anyway, I will go by what the US Department of State website says.

Haiti Police records are not required for initial application for an immigrant visa. When/if requested at the time of interview, police records may be obtained from the Central Bureau of the Judicial Police (Direction Centrale De la Police Judiciaire).

If her interview says that it's needed, then she'll bring that letter to DCPJ inorder to get the police certificate.

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations.

We got a police certificate even though he had no record. I submitted it with the packet but it was never asks for. My husband didn't have to provide any documentation when he went to get the certificate - it just took awhile to produce - like all documents do in Haiti.
