legal name to maiden name on AOS application

Hello. I'm on a K1 visa and recently got married. I had a name change during marriage and currently my legal name is including my husbands last name on hyphen. I'm about to file I-485(Adjustment of Status/Green Card). The form asks for the current legal name which is technically my married name but i actually want to use my maiden name on the forms. Is this possible? Or do i have to use my legal name?

From my experience,  just using your legal name on forms will save you a lot of issues.

You want your new name on your green card and social security card, or there is a big chance you will be asked to show your marriage certificate everywhere. On airports, for example. Not sure why you want your old name on all your new IDs.

29.11.2013 - NoA1

06.02.2014 - NoA2

01.04.2014 - Interview. 

AoS

03.2015 - AoS started.

09.2015 - Green Card received.  

RoC

24.07.2017 - NoA1.

01.08.2018 - RoC approved.

Why did you change your name if you don't want to use your new name?

What name do you want to use?  If you plan to use your family's name and your husband's family name (hyphenated) as your legal name going forward then I would use this on your AOS forms so that your cards (EAD/AP/GC) reflect that name.  Doing it otherwise may cause issues such as the wrong name on your cards, etc.

since you wanted keep your maiden name, then why did you do a name change when you got married?
