Hi all, I would like to bring in an important query here. It might be helpful to many who are reading this thread. I’m a permanent resident in Canada. And I’m staying here with my wife and my two kids. My father’s family is settled in the US. I’m facing a problem with the sponsorship of my cousin. My cousin(Fred) has been in the US for the past 15 years. I tried for his sponsorship. But, it was refused the other day. I was not able to know the reason behind it. And confused with the next step I need to take. Is there a way out for me? What is your opinion?

When I searched for it, I read the details of sponsorship appeals in Canada . And in that, it says, we can appeal the negative decision to the Immigration Appeal Division(IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board(IRB). And it specifically reminds that the person is found to be inadmissible to Canada, then the sponsorship procedures will be in vain. I asked him about his past and he told that he has not been charged any case till date except one. Once when he was driving, he was caught by the police for drinking and driving. And this case was charged five years back. And, the license was suspended. But, he was not punished. So, I would like to know whether that would be a big issue in his sponsorship. What do you think? Are there any particular rules in the US? If yes, please give the details. Has anyone gone through any same situation?

I wish to know your reply soon. Only after that, I can move on with the procedures.

Waiting for it. Your reply and suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is this for Fred to visit? I know Canada takes Drunk Driving issues very seriously.

That is where Fred will have to start: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5312ETOC.asp

Just want to add that it will take time - I think the latest I heard was 18+ months at the NY consulate.

Thanks for the information. But, will it take 18+ months? That's too long I think.

Eh indeed.

It is only to visit.
