When the courier sends our passport, etc, to my fiancee, exactly what is sent and how?

My guess is that two things are sent:

  1. The passport with the K1 visa inside of it?
  2. The pack of stuff that we dare not open unless we want to repeat the process over again? Or is this given at the interview? Or is this pack a myth?

When I read the embassy site, it was oddly worded and made it seem like the passport was put inside of a do not open pack and sent back via courier. Is there a do not open pack or is this just a myth? If it's not a myth, surely the passport is not inside of it?

I know these are dumb questions that I pretty much know the answer to, but the government is dumb, so I am becoming dumb for a moment to play it safe.

The passport with the visa inside of it is on the outside of the packet that you don't open. Basically, you'll open the plastic a little and get the passport out without damaging the envelope part that contains the paperwork.

We actually left the rest of the plastic on too, since it helped protect the envelope. It's not given at the interview, it's all mailed to you together.

They will mail a packet. The packet contains the passport and the "do not open" envelope. Open the packet to get your passport. Do not open the "do not open" envelope.

It's all your paperwork...What do you think would be in it?

I thought that maybe there was a thumb drive with the surveillance footage of my entire life on it. I still have not figured out how 'they" manage to have enough of "them" to record all of "us" and how they have enough time to watch all of it. Especially if I am older than the person watching. They would definitely need someone older than me to watch everything I have done in my life. Baffles the mind.

Yeah I get that. I read the state dept website... https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html#14

What I meant is referring to the red text below:

"After You Receive a K-1 Fiancé(e) Visa

If you are issued a K-1 visa, the Consular Officer will give you your passport containing the K-1 visa and a sealed packet containing the civil documents you provided, plus other documents prepared by the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. It is important that you do not open the sealed packet. Only the DHS immigration official should open this packet when you enter the United States. As the K-1 visa holder, you must enter the United States either before or at the same time as any qualifying children holding K-2 visas."

I don't know if this is still the case but (in Canada, anyway) DHL/Loomis had this terrifying policy at the time I got my K1 of opening your package in front of you when you came to pick it up, rather than just giving it to you to take home. Considering your passport with the new visa and that priceless "DO NOT OPEN" envelope are both inside, it is incredibly unnerving to watch a complete stranger take a knife to YOUR parcel that you have probably shed blood, sweat, tears and a lot of money over! 😬

  1. White envelope containing all your immigration files, including medical results. Clearly marked with name and Do Not Open warnings.
  2. Passport with new visa glued to a page in the back

All that is wrapped in a clear plastic outer delivery wrapper with the delivery label on it. The delivery wrapper can be ripped off to get the things out.

If you open the files envelope, it has to go back to London to be resealed.

Just your papers and a few others but nothing cool or interesting in the slightest. All the papers did have a line printed on them at the bottom that said scan date and had a date....the kind that scanners will put sometimes when you scan things. Guessing that was when it was first scanned in when they received it. They didn't take my then fiancees packet and we had it at the house for a week until will realized what it was. Had to take it back to the airport...ended up being a non issue that we had it. They said it happens.
