Hmm, maybe that had something to do with it. I tried it again a little while ago and I can post in it now.

You haven't seen the infamous bunny with the pancake on his head? I just figure if the bunny also had a blow pop in his mouth it would be even funnier. Then imagine a person doing it.

It had to have been. I tried responding to several posts but it wouldn't let me.

I ask because the site seemed to be down for a while this afternoon and posts hardly ever get locked here without the OP (you) asking.

Oh well, water under the bridge. Now, can you tell me what the heck PUT A PANCAKE ON YOUR HEAD AND EAT A BLOW POP is all about?!

I just read both threads i cannot believe your words were that misinterpreted. Anyway, I understood what you meant, I am sorry it was not easy. I too thought the woman i talked to at the passport control looked like the kind that no matter what would find something, but that is something that was in me, my nervousness not in the color of the person i was talking to. I thought everyone would understand that much as there were no racist remarks in your description

Anyway, glad you are done with that part of the journey, and good luck on the rest of it! :)

Oh, ok. I have no clue why I was thinking that you are currently in Mexico LOL. Wow, how far is Yucatan from Juarez? Juarez was my party place back in my teen years. It's gotten dangerous for women over the years. Sad because you can do some cheap shopping in Juarez. When my stepfather first brought me and my mom to the states, she loved shopping there because they had alot of foods and items from Germany. Good luck to you and your fiance with the interview!

I don't know. My mom always says it takes a twisted person to come up with twisted comments. I feel better now that I got to clarify what I meant. I can actually laugh about it now.

gabba...hahaha, Johnny one arm....good one.

Yeah, peoples nicknames here are hysterical. I love getting the story on why they are called things. I know people called, Stitchy, Sick, Fas' Money, Birchie, Farmer, Segal, Rasta, Shy, Shorty, Tally, Nine, Rambo, Ratty, Strapped, Bigga, Goldilocks, Redman, Easter...gosh the list can go on.

I saw something very funny on a regional TV broadcast of one of the ICC Cricket matches. The game was nearing the end but the loosing, second batting team was trying very hard to catch up. The camera panned the audience, stopped at a rather large woman and said, It ain't over yet, she ain't singing. (it ain't over till the fat lady sings).

The first thing I thought of was how fast that commentator would be fired in the states for that, and then I laughed my butt off.

Magnolia, I understand the feeling of being the ONLY white person. About 3 months after I got to Grenada a young friend took me to watch a football match in the next village over. The stands were all mashed up still from a recent hurricane so everyone just lined up around the edge of the field and watched from there. As I scanned the crowd of about 300. I realized I was the one and only white person there. It is funny, nobody there seemed to care...in fact, some guys were very happy I was there. Nobody did anything that should have made me uncomfortable, but somehow I couldn't get the thought out of my head. I couldn't feel like I fit in even when people were acting very normal towards me. It's been a great opportunity to see how much I have been progrmmed to keep "race" at the front of my mind. I was so concious of it all the time when I first got here, but I was still feeling awkward talking about what color or shade someone was. Now I have gotten quite used to it, I think my eyes ave adjusted too, I see shades of color more than I used to. I used to just think black was black, but oh how wrong I was!

I'll be a little sad to go back to very white Maine, Things get a bit boring with no variety.

I guess I'll have to just come back to Grenada whenever I can.

Gabba,

I almost forgot to answer your question. I am originally from a small farming town called Limerick (yes our team color was green). But most of my adult life I lived in Portland. I think I remember you telling me at one point that you went to school in Bar Harbor? It's real nice up there too. I do love Maine, there is such natural beauty there. I couldn't magine what it would be like growing up in a place that is ugly or bland.

You'll have to come to Maine and visit after you are both settled in.

Also, I know EXACTLY what you mean about them having a look, its an expression or posture that shows that they mean business! I try to stay away from their line

I'm with you on those type of people. Unfortunately, I always end up in the situation the OP described - they somehow need someone from the busy line to go to the line with the scary guy. And they pick me :crying:
