If you change your name, just a letter, in your surname (to make it look better), will this affect the visa application (when some documentation we will send in would have my old name on it)?  It is the one immigrating to US that wants to change a letter in the surname.

Will obviously have documentation of the change in English from the government.

Also is it maybe best to change first name til after application is approved? Or before even submitting it? Please someone help.

Really want to change that one letter and maybe my first name as well.

Unless it is super important to you, I would wait until naturalisation, when you can do a free name change.

That being aid, if you want to change both first and last name, do it at the same time. and make sure you have official documentation to send in with your spousal visa petition. Put your old name in th "other names used" field.  It SHOULD not cause major issues, but there may be delay for extra security and name checks.
