Hello guys,

I entered the US 4 years ago as F-1 and maintained my status the whole time and I just got married to a USC on March 2017. We filled and sent our application 2 weeks ago and we just got the Approval Notice (I-797). Virginia state and my school states that I'm eligible for in state tuition while my I-485 is pending by providing the I-797. My issue is that I want to be safe and have a back up plan by maintaining my F-1 status (enroll full time, not planning on using the EAD/AP combo,......). My question is : Will applying and filling the In-state application form have any impact on F-1 status and make me lose my status ?

Thank you

According to the research I did, once you apply for AOS, you have two options: either end your F-1 status but you will have to leave the country if you didnt get approved or keep your F-1 status ( enroll full time...etc...) while you AOS is pending so that will give you a back up plan to continue school in case you didn't get approved.

I applied for EAD/AP, I just don't think I will use it, because using it will make me lose my F-1 status.
