Hello everyone - this is probably a really silly question, and I suppose I am just looking for reassurance more than anything, as the new I-485 form has confused me in places...when we started looking at the AOS paperwork, the new version hadn't been released and I found the old form much easier to complete. I haven't seen a sample form anywhere for the latest version, so I wanted to ask others who have already completed it.

Looking at the new form, I wondered about the A-Number field at the top of every page. Should I complete this with my A-Number, on all 18 pages, or should it be left blank for USCIS use? I ask as the field is separated from the rest of the questions by a thick border, so I wasn't completely sure if it was for official use only. I suppose we do save them time by filling it out ourselves...but as we also include our A-Number on Page 2, Part 1, Q.10, I wasn't sure. Am I correct in typing my number into every one of these fields? Sorry if this is a silly question.

Thank you!

You are supposed to put your A# on every page yourself.

No problem...the reason they ask for this is really for your own protection in a way.  Should a page from your application become separated from the others, or if USCIS "breaks up" the package in any way during processing, every page is easily identified as belonging to your case by the A# being on every page.

Best of luck with your application.

If you fill the I-485 out in pdf form, then this field populates automatically from the first time you fill in your A number near the top of the first page.

Thank you again, it makes total sense why they've added this, I hadn't seen it on the other forms.

And I didn't know about the pdf filling it in for you, I will have to borrow my husband's laptop and save myself some time. :) Thank you both.

Hi, the number is on the K-1 visa in my passport, and also on the NOA2 received back when we submitted our I-129f petition for my K-1 visa. On that paper, it was handwritten into the form, by the person who approved our petition (I assume). It starts with AA.
I'm afraid I don't have an online copy of the I-485 as I printed and photocopied it instead (I didn't save it on the computer) - are there any particular questions you're stuck on? It took a long time for me to complete it as some of the questions were confusing. I can let you know what I put for certain ones.

Thanks for your response. There are a lot of questions i am stuck on. I came to US on a J-1 visa not K-1. I was never issued an A-number. I have I-94 number instead. I have some more questions about the form if ok?

If you were never given one, then leave it blank, it should be fine. I assume they will assign you a number. It does say "A number (if any)" on the form, so they will understand that you don't have one.

Yes feel free, I will try to help, and I'm sure others might be able to chime in, too. :)

Thanks! I was wondering whether I should

put my I-94 number or not on the A-number boxes because when I went to the uscis doctor for my medical I told him that I have no A-number and only I-94 number was ever issued to me. Still the doctor put my I-94 number on the foeld for A-number because he said immigration is very particular about numbers.

If you weren't given an A-number then I wouldn't put another number in those fields. You're already giving your I-94 number for Question 23.a., so they will know what that is.

For the petition receipt and priority date, it says "(if any)", so if that isn't relevant to you because there was no petition for your visa, I would leave it blank. I left priority date blank because I didn't have one.

Thanks for all your help people! I just got my waiver today! I have to finish all the paperwork and requirements and file them soon! I worked on the NOS for 3 weeks and the waiver for only a week and a half and it is here!

Do you or anyone here has J-1 visa and is on AOS based in marriage? May I know what your packet includes?thanks!

For part 2 on page 3, item 2, what should be my answer to question: are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) Section 245 (i)?

My visa is J-1 and I am applying based on marriage to USC.
