Hello,

We got an RFE for our I-864, adjusting from a K-1 visa, stating that there is not sufficient evidence backing up my income meeting the requirements. I started my job in October 2016, so it isn't reflected in last year's tax documents (I was a student back then and had virtually no income). It does, however meet the poverty guideline requirement (with a lot of leeway - I make well over $50k). The only way I can document this is via pay stubs and a letter of employment. Evidently this was not sufficient the first time around, though.

In sending back the RFE materials should we just ask one of my parents to be a joint sponsor to avoid another RFE?

We had the same problem.

If you work in a corporation ask for an access to theworknumber.com. Big companies usually offer this.

We pulled a immigration verification from that page and Employment Data Report.

We submitted the tax return even though it was not sufficient, all pay stubs, letter from employer, bank statements with highlighted deposits, poverty guidelines with highlighted applicable row.

One more thing based on our experience. You wrote:

Please note that if your parents file their taxes jointly, even if just one individual income is enough to sponsor your petition, I would recommend for the other one to sign form I864a and provide the supporting documentation. This committs them both to being sponsors somehow, but it gives USCIS an assurance that both are informed and on board.
