Spend a day with Carolina, one of my best friends. It's good to see friends during this process, most live far. 

My parents live in a beach club in the Caribbean, which know, it is certainly not the most horrible place to be at. 

 

I started a diet, which might seem silly before traveling but I am heavier than usual and refuse to keep on this path.

I have to say, cutting down on sugar and carbs makes me feel surprisingly better, rather than sluggish or tired. 

It is hard because I have cravings and who doesn't love carbs? but I have to do this for myself.

Mourning Chester Bennington's suicide. I can't believe that I saw the guy in May and I'll never see him again. Such a loss...

 

Linkin Park's CDs were always in rotation for me when I was younger and I knew all the words.  I too can't believe he did this.  His poor 6 children without a father now.  I know people have trouble seeing out of their depression, but the impact on his children's lives and all the young fans he had who might follow suit.  It just upsets me.

@Asia and @N-o-l-a I agree. It was truly shocking, especially of the fact that he has kids and was on tour, it makes no sense at all. 

I think it maybe has to do with Cornell since they were really good friends, but no one know what they were going through, and depression is not a choice. You don't ''want'' to hurt other people or leave your family suffering. The world is just, ugh. I can't even right now.

One modern aspect of suicides or drug overdoses is that with the new generation of opioids, it's never been more easy to die, accidentally or intentionally. Used to be people would down a whole bottle of pills and that wouldn't even do the trick. With some of these new drugs if you take just a bit too much, you can be dead in an hour or two.

 

In some ways I'm glad I'm 57 yrs old. Had some of these drugs been available and easy to get 25 years ago, I might not have had the maturity to resist. I also tell people if some of the craft beers that now run at 8 or 9% alcohol by volume, been around in the 70's, I'm sure I'd have become an alcoholic. Increased self discipline is probably one of the most underrated advantages of aging.

I think it is the burden of my generation and the younger ones.  A friend of a friend posted something recently about how returning to our hometown was like driving through a cemetery as she recollected all the people she knew who died of overdoses.

 

On a similar theme, I get that families want privacy and can put whatever they want in an obituary, but it would make the crisis so much more real for society if they actually said when someone died from drugs.  In my area, a girl in her young 20s was a front page obituary on the local news website yesterday, no cause of death stated... but easily guessed.  I think if people knew how many were dying locally, they'd act.

So I was siting on the couch talking to my mom, minding my own business, casual, nothing out of the ordinary.

when my dog came ramming towards my leg in the way she usually does when she is following something: something usually of a creepy nasty nature, like a cockroach. 

I was just about to move when I felt something crawling over my foot and I jumped out my seat and away as fast as I could 

There it was, staring at me.

 

A baby crab. So I opened the door so it could leave, and there it goes. Not before threatening me with its adorable tiny claws.*

 

I was certainly relieved it wasn't a cockroach! 

what a time to be alive. 

 

 

 

* My parents live in a beachfront apartment. Even then it's a bit unlikely because we are on the 4th floor.

Yup, and an alcoholic. 

When I demanded that he needed to clean up or get out. He told me I was the one with the problem. 

 

BTW I don't touch either not even a drop of alcohol. Seen enough addicts didn't want to be one.
