Oh dear.  Well I'm glad you didn't take her word for it and asked the nurse.  That's a big difference between pneumonia.

Huge difference. Pneumonia you can cure. CHF, not so much, it isn't a great finding in the elderly.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

thanks for your well wishes.

She had a mild stroke.

I was there, the only symptom she had was slurred speech. Gave her 2 aspirins and called 911. They were lightening quick. 15 minutes from the onset to the hospital.

The hospital was equally fast. I say inside the first 5 minutes they found the clot.

Glad to hear they found everything so fast! :) I hope she feels better soon.

Wow!  I'm glad you were there.  I guess those billboards I see about calling 911 right away are actually valid.

I thought, just before I rang the charming daughter, I might try and speak with the MIL's actual nurse. She was off the floor when I was there. Just in the event that she doesn't have the best information. She was going on about the number of cardiologists in and out this morning, for one thing, which struck me as an odd service to be following her.

She isn't going to Rehab, and no one has told her she is. There's nothing on the chart, or in the offing, that in any way indicates that's the plan.

She doesn't have a dx of pneumonia either. She has acute CHF, and that's another story.  I don't know whether she was told that, or if she understood it, or whether she was told and it's gone right in one ear and out the other. She tends to substitute actual reality for the one she prefers.

And so does her daughter. I've rung her, she had plans for the upcoming week and sees no reason to change those. Well then.

Oh boy, glad you talked to the nurse. That daughter of hers is messed up. Hope she gets some better plan in for care.

Quick thinking.

Hospitals don't waist time with heart attacks and stroke that window is very small to get those meds in her to prevent further damage.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Does she understand what that diagnosis means for someone her Moms age or is she just heartless?

That's bloody impressive reactions by you, I don't think I'd have got the aspirin.

Hope she's feeling fine and has no lasting effects :)

I have an interview at Home Depot, I am a little unsure as it's nothing related to my previous career ( I managed a team of engineers) but I figure it's a job and it will give me the US work history they seem to want round here...

It might even be fun 😁

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

So after little over a week out, I came to say hello.

I'm trapped in a Caribbean island with spotty wifi and no car, my parents live in a beach club far from everything.

I guess it's not the worst place to be at, unless you saw LOST and understand how I feel. Anyway,

My dad turned 60 and I brought him a fancy 15 year old rum from Cuba to celebrate

my husband is arriving tomorrow, so I'm understandably happy and stable right now. Much needed week with him.

I'm being eaten alive by mosquitoes, it's hot as balls and my face is greasy 90% of the time. I missed you, Cozumel.

As it turns out, I just lucked out with the aspirin. It helps most strokes (Ischemic strokes), but can cause more harm if a stroke is caused by a burst blood vessel. I gave it to her because I took my best guess that it was a blood clot. Mainly because she didn't really have any loss of motor function or consciousness.

Actually, I have a much more snappy reply to this. But I refrained from it.

While at the hospital I ran into....like everyone I know!

An EMT woman whom I've known for 20 years.

A rabbi whom I've known for 15 years

And, the patient next to my mother in the ER, his son walks in, and it's my friend! (Who is under federal indictment).

My maternal aunt is on terminal watch now, my family are spending 24/7 at her bedside in shifts.

Mum is distraught and it's ramming home the heartache of being so far away

Godspeed. Love never dies.

I delete the soul eaten photos.  Don't you know women only keep attractive photos of themselves?
