Hoo brother, did we have excitement in the casa tonight, hoo man.

(And we missed it, having stepped outside, timing is everything man.)

 

Mini-B. has a tablet that he calls his iPad, wee man.

He has played games on it nonstop and obsessively for months, unhealthy man.

He has ignored us in favor of it, wrong man.

He has refused to read books or to play games with us, obsessed wee man.

Last week, Mrs. T-B. set a rule that he could play on it only Sun-Mon-Tues, rule she man.

This was not accepted well, objections from wee man.

 

This eve, we called Mini-B. to dinner, ingest wee man.

Mini-B. objected until we ordered him to come, trouble man.

He gulped his dinner in order to return to his iPad, obvious man.

 

(This is the part that we missed, timing man.)

Later, Mrs. T-B. called Mini-B. to get ready for bed, imminent zzz wee man.

Mini-B. apparently objected, obsessed wee man.

Mrs. T-B. grabbed the iPad and smashed it to the ground, where it broke, bye man.

Mini-B. went ape-waste, histrionic wee man.

He apparently tried to hit Mrs. T-B., uh-oh man.

Mrs. T-B. spanked him, rightfully man.

Mini-B. briefly continued to go ape-waste and then became inconsolable, realization by wee man.

It took some time for Mrs. T-B. to settle him down, diplomatic she man.

 

Ironically, just Sunday, we had quietly suggested to Mrs. T-B. that we smash the iPad in Mini-B.'s presence, object-lesson man.

 

Mrs. T-B. thinks that Mini-B. will be OK, presume she man.

 

We're expecting a full week of very rainy weather, warshout man.

Mini-B. might be pretty much casa-bound, few outdoor activities man.

Gotta break the habit. Mini-B is too wee! He'll be alright. Time to use his imagination now. Do you have one of those indoor places with trampolines where he could be taken during rainy days? Here, they are not too expensive, provides entertainment and exercise.

I think breaking it in anger might demonstrate that he should break things and allow his anger to supersede his logical thoughts as well, but that isn't exactly something you can go back and undo.  This isn't coming from a judgmental place, but rather a recollection from my own childhood - when my parents didn't respond calmly but firmly, it only escalated things between us, especially as I got older.

 

My daughter uses an ipad and my spare macbook pro.  She knows she isn't allowed to use them without permission and doing chores first.  Also, schoolwork that I or the school has assigned takes precedence.  Back-talking results in losing privileges for a day.

He often won't react unless and until Mrs. T-B. goes ape-waste, drama required man.

We dished the warsher last night, a day later than optimal man.

Mrs. T-B. had soiled a record Many (2x2x2x2+[2x2x2]) -- yes, Many (2x2x2x2+[2x2x2]) -- tablespoons, prolific she man.

 

This had left us with only Many (2+2) tablespoons in the silverware drawer, running on empty man.

I feel like I'm missing the requisite piano or violin lessons in there and punishments for less than perfect scores.

 

The older one is about as musically or sports inclined as a baby seal.  I'm glad for it because she's saving us a ton of money.
