There are 1680 pages in the Philippines immigration section, while only 280 or so in the whole Latin-American section :o that's around 100 mil vs  600,000+ million people. And I keep hearing about a lot of people marrying women from there. How does marrying someone from a specific region, like the Philippines becomes popular? Just curiosity, I really don't know much about the country.

It's interesting that I have not encountered a lot of Mexican filers even in Spanish-speaking forums, but a lot from other places in South America. Also, I know Mexico is considered high-fraud, but after reading the Ghana section I don't feel quite as bad anymore.

I haven't had breakfast and there's no coffee in the apartment so that might account for current sleepiness and grumpiness.

I suspect that the lower number of CR1s and K1s out of Mexico is probably that there are a lot of Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans already in America.  There are also a lot of intermarriages and have been for a number of years.

I say that because I think some people seem to have have a particular cultural or racial preference towards a life partner.  Filipinas have a reputation, that is more folklore than anything, of being submissive, more traditional wives, smaller, etc.  Sometimes it is the case, but sometimes it is not.  They also tend to be able to speak English.  The Filipino-American community has done pretty well in America over the years and has been here since at least WWII.  They integrate well.

that sounds about right! I guess I just never thought of doing the whole tourist VISA -marriage- adjust from the inside. When I left the US my husband and I weren't engaged, even though we talked about marriage. I don't think I've ever met Filipinos as in, talk to them. We have a growing community in my town since a lot of them come in cruise ships as crew members and they seem nice! that's crazy about the reputation. I've heard from some American guys that they want foreign women because they don't like how ''independent and outspoken'' American women are. Traditionally, Mexican women also tend to be more family-oriented, submissive etc, I'm weird because I'm very independent, hardworking and a feminist, so I found a guy that likes that about me. Things didn't work out with my ex because he was expecting a traditional Mexican wife that would stay home and raise a family right away, boy was he wrong.

My aunt actually did the whole ''getting married inside the US on a tourist VISA'', hired a lawyer, didn't have to adjust outside or spend time apart. She was surprised I didn't go that route and I was under the impression that well, that's immigration fraud (adjusting inside the US when you entered on a tourist VISA with the purpose of getting married) we did our research and opted for the CR1. I wish it was a more efficient VISA though, 8 months and counting... no NOA2.

Looking forward to going back to work, kind of.

Staying on the beach for a while is fun, but it does get old after a while. I need to make some money,

especially since we have some expenses coming up, once I have to travel to Juarez for the interview,

and I'm trying to recover from all the traveling. It was expensive but so worth it!

Lazy weekend, drinking margaritas and relaxing with my friend

I don't think you've been around long enough for me to mention that my daughter is part Filipino, have you?  You can only really tell in photos when she's with all of us and she's a different type of white, maybe less pink and more yellow or something like that.

I may be mistaken but there is definitely a largely incorrect stereotype in America of Latinas as kind of loud and fiery, if that is the right word to use.  I don't think of that as being a problem, but I think it would not be the stereotype that people who are going after certain cultures are looking for.  I think it is always a little funny when anyone says that such and such a personality type doesn't exist in their own culture.  I'm traditional, *cough* submissive, and American.  However, I wouldn't touch any of these wannabe alphas with a ten foot pole, but I think they know deep down the reason is that they aren't enough of men to get the type of women they want in America.  *steps down from soap box*

Ok, I really need to know if there are actual couples out there who like to read to each other.  I saw multiple people mention this as a pleasant activity in a FB group I'm in and I just saw it as an anniversary activity you could do.

Personally, I can't really think of anything worse.  One of my least favorite parts of primary and secondary school was listening to other people read aloud.  It is like nails on a chalkboard.

Now that is just weird.

I didn't know!  love the combination though, I've seen half Filipino people and they just look so gorgeous to me. A bit similar to Latin-American people I believe. Haha, a different type of white. Yes, we do tend to have more of a yellow than pink undertone for sure.

There is totally a stereotype (or many stereotypes) surrounding latinas. One of them is that we're loud and fiery indeed. But like any other person in any culture, there are latinas that aren't loud or fiery. Just like you mentioned being a more traditional American (hey nothing wrong with it!) And I know a lot of Americans that are warm and family-oriented, just like Latinos.

ooooh snap. I love that! I agree, many men do try to find women that are culturally more submissive because they don't want to deal with ''bossy, strong'' women exactly for the reasons you mentioned, they just can't handle it. It's a way to hide their insecurities since they know we would totally call them on it. Go to the kitchen yourself and make ME a sandwich, boy.

@N-o-l-a  @Ontarkie Reading to my partner as a couple's activity? We are not five-year-olds

The only reason I'd read something aloud is when I don't know what it means or how to pronounce it and my husband tells me.

other than that, I like reading at my own pace and I'm usually faster, so that does sound like a horrible time.

We can also be a different person with our spouses than with others.  For instance at work I have a dominant personality.  I take charge, I decide on paths to take, and can make good decisions based on good reasoning.  I pay attention with others have ideas and try to make sure I'm not over stepping my bounds while making sure my superiors know I can do more than just my job.  I'm a "go-getter" you would say.

But at home, I let hubs take the lead. We have a pretty traditional relationship and as much as he says he wants me to take charge, he really doesn't.  I look after our home, he brings home the bacon.  Granted I do more fixing, more work on the house, and have zero issues changing oil or working on vehicles.

So he thinks I'm more of a follower, that I make only emotional decisions (I make plenty of logical ones at home he chooses to ignore), but he sees potential for more. The more is already there, but two people in charge in this house just wouldn't work out well.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  - Dr. Seuss

Saturday GS/ES report, see man:

We arose at o'dark-Many and spent fully Many (2+2+1) hours GS-ing and ES-ing, treasure-hunt we man.

Early mass GS had fewer vendors than ever, some possibly recovering from flooding man.

And, at one ES, we just missed getting at least 2 beautiful large suitcases at only $Many ($2x2x2+2+2) apiece, grrr man.

However, we scored OK, see below man.

The take, see man:

-- Many (2x2x2+1) books for Mini-B. = $Many ($2x2x2+2), OK man

-- Many (2+2) books for Mini-B. = $2, OK man

-- Sunbeam quartz wall-clock with working battery = $2, steal man

-- Many (2+2+2) soft warshcloths = buck-&-a-half, OK man

-- Many-pack (2x2x2-pack) of D-cell Energizer batteries good for Many (2x2x2) more years = $Many ($2+2+1), deal man

-- soft hand-towel; 2 large scissors = $Many ($2+1), OK man

-- box of Many00 ([2+2+2]00) small Legos; Lego baseboard = $Many ($2x2x2+2+1), steal man

-- Many (2+1) packages angelhair pasta; Many (2+1) cans Chef Boy-ar-Dee lasagna; toucans Chef B. Beefaroni;

can Chunky soup; full large bottle pancake syrup; roll of shop-towels; partial pack styrofoam plates = $Many

     ($2+1), steal man

Total = $Many ($2x2x2x2x2+2+2+1+half a buck), whee man

Mini-B. was thrilled with his Legos, happy wee man.

And often, buying foodstuffs & casa-hold stuff at ESs is cheaper than even the dollar stores, thrifty we man.

Ya ain't getting any younger Tbone.

It's been raining here so the lawn is strangely green.  I think my husband may have finally turn on the furnace? We've been bundling up instead.

My ex reminded me why I dislike him in case I had forgotten.  If guilt tripping doesnt work then throw money at the problem to get my way, is his motto.  So I went off on him and said, I will take your plans into consideration but I cannot and will not promise it will make a difference in my plans.

I had to tell my husband I appreciated who he was after that.  He was nice the other day too and said some sweet things.
