I hope everyone is safe after the hurricanes! It's flooded everywhere. Even Mexico City. South Asia. :(

sorry for disappearing! Update:

arrived in Tokyo the 28th. It's everything I wanted it to be, enjoyed 4 awesome days walking around. Went to Harajuku, Shinjuku and Shibuya.

Took a plane to Bangkok and what a difference. We stayed in a hostal and the next day, still tired from all the traveling we went to see the temples and a floating market.

the next day we traveled 7 hrs on the worst train ride of my life to Surin where I'm currently at. It's close to Cambodia, medium sized city.

I got sick of course, awful throat infection. The meds are kicking in thankfully, but I'm missing the first chunk  of the volunteering program.

Ive  been so exhausted  that I don't mind the obligated 4 days of rest. Booked a decent hotel with AC and I've been mostly sleeping, eating pad Thai and getting my strength back  to join the others on Thursday.

Then I'll go back to Bangkok and then back to Tokyo. 7 hrs bus + 6 hrs plane, enjoy four more days of Tokyo, then 14 hr plane back to Mexico City, staying the night, then 2 hr plane to Cancun, 1:30 bus ride, 40 min boat.

where I'll proceed to collapse on my bed for hopefully a week straight.

but guess who isn't really thinking of immigration! Until now. * tear*

If I look like a crazy person writing at this hour, it is because it is 4 pm here.

I just went out trying to find food and it was a nightmare. Language barrier, scolding heat. I ended up at the 7 eleven yet again. At least they have a good selection of pre packaged foods and even hard boiled eggs.

Our 7 eleven has sandwiches and hot dogs, if you're lucky.

Still resting. So tired.

@Dianalorena hope you feel better, find food and have the most amazing time!

According to some of the spaghetti forecasts for Irma it's going to get unpleasant here early next week, we live in a forest, on the side of a mountain - I'm hoping Irma's had enough before it gets this far!

In other news work has been awful, the environment is not pleasant to be in unless you are part of the clique, yesterday I was called to be part of the store associate's feedback panel - I gave honest answers to the questions.

The store manager was horrified to hear half our department are actively looking for a way out and I have another meeting with him today - hopefully he can change things.

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

I remember spending a summer in Mexico eating corn tortillas, granola bars, and Magnum ice cream bars because me and the local food were not friends.  I was a much pickier eater then and scared of getting Montezuma's revenge.

I ended up getting it anyway.  Not fun.   Actually, it was probably something else because it took 6 months or more to clear up.

Is there not some city agency that deals with the livability of housing, i.e. deeming it unfit?

If she must live there, a way to stymie the mold growth might be some de-humidifiers and really good quality air filters.  My mother's basement had this issue... the air filter added on top of the de-humdifier really did solve it.

My Sister, who lives on Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos, sent me a note this morning to say she has left, taken her Daughter and the Grandchildren, and returned to Canada to wait Irma out. Her Husband and her Daughters Husband are staying behind. I hope that wasn't a grave mistake. It looks very bad in that area. She says they are prepared as they can be, but I don't know how you do that in the face of such a large storm.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Wow, I hate work cliques. They really have a way of ostracizing people not on the inside. Seems every place I've worked has been like that. As a manager, I confess I took great pleasure in breaking up those little knots of 'special' people. We had a 7/24 roster, and it was easy peasy to move people about.

Good on you for being straight up with the manager.
