His claws will get  caught in the mesh.

During the flooding or immediately afterwards, cut the drywall, pull the baseboards and have them dry.  Cutting the drywall before the areas above the water can get wet will save the top part.

 

Fan the area and douse your studs with bleach.

 

If you have a shop-vac with a water pump you can use that to get the residual water out when the flood recede.  We used two of those, a surface water pump, and a submersible to get ours dry when it flooded.  Some people needed the fire department to pump out their basements.

I hope you don't have to experience the awesome power of FEMA. 

In the days after Sandy, my 2 guys that lived in the Rockaways lost their homes. 

FEMA went to them, came by and started writing checks. 

Initially 10k for emergency releif. 

Subsequently, about 100k each on top of their insurance.

Reconnaissance of flooding, see we man:

Rain still steady but not quite as strong, relief man.

Entire street now covered with water, expected man.

Lapping about Many (2x2x2x2-2) inches past sidewalk up driveway, but slope is fighting it, better than expected man.

We wonder whether we can wait till morn to tarp the front door, will watch TV weather man.

The kids are going back and forth saying "nej" at each other.  

 

And the toddler has peed on the floor no less than 3 times tonight.  I am going to have 2 in diapers, I know it.
