i've read quit a few different articles on this guys arrest. the op's title makes it seem as if his arrest has something to do with the fbi and hard drives and dws (who i loathe btw). it doesn't.

I think that if he did not do that issue with the money then he wouldn't have got arrested because the evidence might have been lacking for the hard drive side of the case. He should have known that the FBI was eyeballing him but he went and did that anyway, which makes him look stupid btw. Since he did money launder money the FBI picked him and arrested him, no doubt they are looking for more stuff on him.

The big take away from this is the Imran should have known the FBI was looking at him and should have been more careful with his actions.

he was charged with bank fraud. he was arrested trying to go to pakistan. not a smart move.

Quote

On Tuesday, Imran Awan, who was trying to fly to Pakistan when the FBI nabbed him, was charged with defrauding the Congressional Federal Credit Union for lying on an application for a $165,000 loan. According to court documents, Awan and his wife lied about an Alexandria property being their primary residence, instead of a rental. They then wired the $165,000 to Pakistan.

Awan is a longtime Capitol Hill staffer who has worked as a shared employee for many different Democratic members of Congress since 2004. Most recently, he worked for Wasserman Schultz but was fired on Tuesday.
Awan’s legal troubles began in February after he, his wife, and several other relatives became the target of an investigation into what Politico called an “alleged procurement scam.” The group was reportedly busted for stealing equipment from 20 House members and accessing House IT systems without permission.

Around this time, most lawmakers cut ties with Awan, but Wasserman Schultz kept him around. And that’s the detail at the center of the right-wing media’s interest with this story. The Daily Caller has also honed in on an exchange Wasserman Schultz had with the chief of the U.S. Capitol Police in which she repeatedly asked him to return a laptop that belonged to her.

All of this has led writers such as National Review’s Jim Geraghty to ask some questions:

Why was Wasserman Schultz so impatient to get her computer back from the Capitol Police if it’s relevant to a criminal investigation? Why did she keep Imran Awan on staff until this week? Who’s got the money now? Did a bunch of longtime Capitol Hill IT staffers risk it all for $165,000?

i feel like the above is the most cohesive tldr of what's actually going on, while acknowledging the rw's questions and concerns..

I agree with the above what he did was not a smart move at all and he should have known that. But that could mean that there is even more stuff to come and he knew that. So he tried to flee the USA before the hammer came down so to speak. So we shall when this whole thing is unfolded.

How do we know?  Comey finally came out and said Trump wasn't under investigation then said the reason he didn't say it earlier is that in the future he might be.  Who knows what this guy and his family did or what they might have on DWS or the DNC or what the FBI might be investigating.  Just like all the pondering of Trump and the entire Russian collusion narrative, we can speculate here as well.

comey and trump have nothing to do with this. speculate all you want. just saying, the same folks who are filling in all these blanks (my initial issue was with not even naming the dude who was arrested, just wasserman -misleading), think that hillary/podesta are still operating a human trafficking network for child sex slaves at comet ping pong in dc.

Media Ditches Substance Of Wasserman Schultz FBI Boondoggle To Focus On Conspiracy Theories

There has been a good deal of noise — though perhaps not enough — surrounding a recently fired IT aide to Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Imran Awan, and his family’s potential financial schemes. While certain outlets are working out the facts of the case, The New York Times, BuzzFeed and Snopes seem more concerned with casting doubt by bringing up speculations and misinformation about the story from unknown blog sites and YouTubers.

The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group reporter Luke Rosiak, who has covered this story extensively since it first appeared in February, broke the news Sunday that “FBI agents seized smashed computer hard drives from the home of Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s information technology (IT) administrator, according to two sources with knowledge of the investigation.”

The NYT and BuzzFeed fail to mention this and many other key facts in recent articles, and Snopes obfuscates the story by rating a claim from a no-name blog as false, requiring the reader to dig through the fact check to find the truth.

Awan was arrested Monday night just hours after TheDCNF’s Sunday story said he was under investigation by the FBI. “He attempted to leave the country hours after The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group revealed that he is the target of an FBI investigation, and the FBI apprehended him at the airport,” Rosiak reported.

Before attempting to leave for Pakistan, Awan wired almost $300,000 to the country. As Rosiak mentions, “Credit union officials permitted the wire to go through, and his wife has already fled the country to Pakistan, after police confronted her at the airport and found $12,000 in cash hidden in her suitcase but did not stop her from boarding, court documents show.”

A NYT article Friday dedicates the vast majority of its space to casting doubt on stories surrounding Awan by using his lawyer, Christopher Gowen, as a reputable defense for Awan. Not only does the NYT ignore Gowen’s deep ties to Clinton, which TheDCNF has reported in detail, but the article also attempts to cast doubt by citing theories from a no-name conspiracy theorist who supports Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders (though NYT calls him a “right winger”).

The NYT complains that “for all the publicity, few if any of the fundamental facts of the case have come into focus,” but fails to mention some of those fundamental facts within the article. The article makes no mention of the official Fairfax court documents that Rosiak has repeatedly linked to in his multiple stories on the Awans: “‘Imran Awan threatened that he is very powerful and if I ever call the police again, [he] will … kidnap my family members back in Pakistan,’ Awan’s stepmother, Samina Gilani, claimed in the documents filed April 14 in Fairfax County, Va., in the case of Americo Financial Life and Annuity Insurance Company v. Abid A. Awan and Samina Ashraf Gilani.”

In an article explaining the events surrounding Imran Awan and his family, BuzzFeed quickly began rebuking certain so-called “far-right” conspiracy theories. “Far-right and pro-Trump media have tried without evidence to link Awan and his wife, brother, and friends to conspiracy theories, especially those surrounding the release of the DNC emails,” BuzzFeed wrote.

While these theories are being pushed by some, BuzzFeed — along with NYT — uses them to cast doubt on the story by asking Awan’s lawyer what he thinks of the speculations. BuzzFeed provides Awan’s lawyer five paragraphs to refute said speculations.

Just as with the NYT article, the BuzzFeed author never mentions the smashed hard drives that the FBI seized from Awan’s home, and continually uses the lawyer to cast doubt on accusations that Awan was fleeing the country.

Who knew that debunking a investigation where a person attempts to flee and wire money to his already-fled wife was a conspiracy and all we had to do was ask his defense lawyer for the truth instead of looking at the facts?

And Snopes.. never had credibility.

Snopes is having some severe credibility issues right now as well and might go bankrupt.

But I never ever believed that Snopes B.S. anyway because it seemed like they had a political leaning to it
