Hi,

I had my naturalisation interview on June 1 at Indianapolis field office. I passed the history and civic test. But the interview officer told me that she was unable to make a decision, gave me the letter with 'B' checked and told that the USCIS would mail me the decision within 120 days. It is 51 days now and Im still waiting for the decision.

My situation is complicated: I got green card (unconditional) through my US citizen spouse. Before meeting the physical presence of 18 months in three years after I got my green card, I took a job at a renowned US university and was posted abroad in its international campus. So, I applied for expedited naturalisation under 319(b), which waives both the continuous presence and physical presence requirements, and the interview office also confirmed that during interview. I submitted my tax return (just like any ordinary US citizen) papers on which my employer was marked as an American organisation/company.

One more thing- Im currently living at my work station abroad. So, I cannot check with USCIS through infopass and ask about my case. Is there any way I contact the USCIS and learn about the status of case? Also, can I hire an immigration attorney at Indianapolis to contact the USCIS on my behalf and deal with my case?

USCIS have 120 days to make a decision on your N-400 beginning the day of the interview.

You could hire an attorney to enquire on your behalf in-person.

You may be able to file a service request remotely, seeking an update on the case status.

What you can certainly do is contact one of your congressional representatives and ask them to enquire for you.
