Hi. My father in law (sponsored by his son) was interviewed for immigrant visa last Jul 19 at the US embassy. The embassy took the passport and other documents but ask him to go to the NBI to update clearance that will show an "AKA" that matches the name in the petition. I think the initial NBI clearance is missing the middle name. They went to the NBI, asked the department to annotate the clearance with AKA and submitted the document to 2go per the instruction of the embassy on the same day of the interview. Since then, the CEAC status is showing REFUSED. Is this normal or something is going on?

Thanks.

Just a quick update on this case. In addition to the initial document being asked above, the embassy asked my father in law to get an explanation from NBI of some case due to a hit in the report (similar name). Prior to that, he did undergo TB treatment at Saint Luke for 6 months and was cleared. Now the petitioner got a 221(g) to get a new medical report from St Luke and pickup his passport from US Embassy (window 36). Any idea what is going on here and chances of him getting an immigrant visa? The current CEAC status is AP. Thanks.

I see he responded to the 221G for the NBI. With that document and others in the file may have caused a decline in is visa.  Usually picking up a passport is suspect for a visa being declined but I am not completely up to date on all that is going on with his case.

Very normal.  He has passed the 6 month time period of the initial medical, new medical is required.  The 2nd medical will only be good for 90 days in regards to Visa validity... have to enter the USA before that expiration date.

Just want to give an update. After completing the 2nd sputum and medical test (Nov 1), St Lukes forwarded the passport to the embassy. The visa is now issued and passport in-transit to home. :)

Great news!!
