Hey everyone,

On June 8, my fiancé got a letter form NVC that our application was forwarded to the local embassy. The local embassy would then send me an instruction package.

It's been almost 2 months and I still haven't heard from them. I contacted the embassy through mail and they just said to wait.

However, I have done some reading, and found the DS-160... Should I fill this out before they can contact me? Is that why it takes so long? Or is there something else I can/should do before the contact? I already started gathering the papers. Or is waiting really the only option?

Thanks.

You can submit the DS-160 and pay the K-1 fee in advance, if you want to. The K-1 fee is valid for a year. However, you wouldn't be able to schedule or get an interview date until you hear something from the embassy concerning Packet 3, be it a soft copy (PDF) via e-mail OR a hard copy set via regular mail.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

When they tell you to wait, there is clearly a waiting time. It could be due the volume of petitions that the Embassy has right now-- it happened in the Netherlands too, a few times. You could try to fill out the DS-160 already but you won't be able to pay the K-1 fee yet. You will receive instructions for the payment in packet 3-4.

Edit: I'm in a Facebook group for Dutch/Belgian fellow K-1ers if you'd like to join for more reliable advice or how-to's.

What is the name of the Facebook group? I can't seem to find it, but it seems very interesting. Thank you :)
