Invitation and Support Letters from American boyfriend

Hi! I am planning to apply for US Visa B1/B2. I am a foreigner who works and lives in Japan. I have been dating with a man from America (born and grow up in America) for almost 1 year. He also lives and works in Japan. He is planning to go back to America for Christmas and New Year holidays and asked me if I want to go with him. Also my previous US B1/B2 Visa expired just 1 month ago. So I have all documents but a little bit not sure about an invitation letter. Right now he is not living in America and he is not asking to come to America to visit him, he is asking to go with him to spend holidays there and then go back to Japan. Also as he is living and working in Japan right now he is not a residence of America at the moment. In that case, I believe that I do not need an invitation letter from him as I my purpose is sightseeing and spending Christmas holidays with my boyfriend who is an American but right now is not living in America so i was not invited by him to visit him in America but go with him. But  if somebody was in the same situation and can give an advice on whether i should ask him to write an invitation, i would be very grateful.

Also I stated in my application that I am going to pay all expenses by myself (as i have a job and can pay for everything by myself) but on another forum somebody recommended me to ask my boyfriend to write a letter where he states that he will take half of expenses (like paying for food, travelling etc) during my trip to America. Do i really need that letter?

Hope somebody can give me good advices!

I wouldn't advice the invitation letter. Based on my experience, i was denied 2x in Singapore US Embassy. I was dating my USC ex bf back then. I read as well that VO might think I will be staying for good in US. I have proof of strong ties, enough savings and all but apparently it is a red flag.

Invitation letters are not required and won't help the case either. You need to show ties to return home on your own. They don't really care why you are coming so much as why you are compelled to leave.

I suggest NOT having anybody write a letter promising any support in the US. Not only is it not required and not enforceable (and has no sway with the CO), but it implies a tie to the US. You need ties back home, not ties to the US. If somebody is paying for your trip, you disclose that on the DS-160 and in the interview if questioned about it. If you're paying for it yourself, that's perfectly fine.

The suggestions to provide an invitation letter and/or letter of support is a very commonly seen myth here. You just need to show your ties to return home and be honest and qualify on your own merits. Good luck.

I agree with both geowrian and Happyfamily03, I would not ask for any letter of invitation.  Focus on the ties that will compel you to return to Japan such as a job, business or family.
