A Note on PCC's for Delhi Consulate

Hi,

In speaking to a help desk employee at the Delhi Consulate, I asked about hubby's police certificate clearance needs and was told that he would ONLY need the police clearance certificate for his local police station and the regional passport office. However, since hubby just renewed his passport last month, that he only needed the regional certificate from the issuing office.

Since this information went against what we read that we needed, I sent an email to the consulate asking the SAME question so that I could have a response in writing.

This is what I got back.

POLICE REPORT: Each applicant aged 16 years and older must submit a police certificate that includes information regarding the applicant including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s) and the disposition of each case(s).

(A) Indian citizens residing in India for six months or more since turning 16 years of age must present Indian police clearance certificates from both their district police station and the local area passport office. Applicants whose passports were issued within six months of the visa interview may present just the passport office certificate. These certificates are valid for one year from the date of issuance.

(B) If an Indian citizen who has lived in India for at least one year after the age of 16 currently resides outside India, he/she must obtain a certificate issued by the Indian Embassy or Consulate where he/she lives. These certificates are valid for only one year from the date of issuance.

We hope this information is useful to you. However, please contact us in case of any clarification.

Sincerely,

Consular Section

This email is unclassified as defined by E.O. 12958

So it seems that Delhi is only asking for two pccs or one depending upon how old the passport is. I hope this helps others who are going through the same consulate.

Thanks for the info! Actually, the Consulate just answered your email with the written instructions (identical) on all the US Consulate websites in India (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai). It seems clear but seems less so when we read the guides on VJ, because some countries require PCCs from every region in the country that one has lived over 6 months. However that is not required in India.

As mentioned in my interview write-up, my fiancé has lived in one district (Hyderabad) for the past nearly 2 years. His permanent village home is in another district (East Godavari). And he got his passport from still another district, which he never even lived in (Visakhapatnam). His visa was granted even though he only had PCCs from Vizag passport office and EG Dist village police station.

I heard of people running around getting certificates from the different places they lived in India. But obviously it is not necessary. Most important is to get a PCC from where the passport was issued, and from the local police where one lives (or has stayed a long time).
