Hi , this is my first time doing the k-1 visa process..My fiance was approved for the visa in jamaica..I just wanted to know is it a necessity for me to go to jamaica to meet with him so we can come back to the states together ? Is it a high chance he get turned around with customs if Im not there?....

Not necessary. Make sure he understands that he should answer all questions asked at the Port of Entry in a truthful manner. If so, he should be fine.

By the way, there is a recent Visa Journey thread where a k1 spouse was rather flippant with his answers at POE. When the IO asked him if he was going to get married during his stay on the "fiancee" visa, he replied, "Maybe." The IO turned around and denied him entry. So, lesson of the story is... no joking around. Be serious.

It really depends on how confident he is in traveling.  As Russ&Caro said it is not necessary, but if your fiancé is not a frequent flier, or has a complicated travel itinerary and you can swing it sure, go down and travel back with him.

Good Luck!

Agreed, I remember reading that story.

Just be honest and you'll be fine.

You don't need to go there to fly in with him. He's still going to be questioned whether you're there or not. Besides, he will have to go through a different line and they may or may not allow you to go with him. He just needs to answer the questions truthfully. Look at the POE reviews to see the reviews for various points of entry.

What type of questions do they usually ask?

You need to look at the POE reviews. You can even look at the one he will enter through and see what others said. I'm not sure if the process is different for fiancées vs spouses. They only asked my husband why he was coming here and he said my wife is here. It wasn't crowded, they took his package and explained the documents and he came through 35 minutes after the flight landed.

Oh.... he came on a Wednesday eve, which may be why it wasn't crowded.

Helps people here to know which airport he will fly to

you don't give your state and even at that  finance may fly into other state airport

More than likely financee wiill come into Florida but can be Ft Lauderal or Miami and maybechange planes

we can help if we know

Particularly, I hate Miami but I don't see why they would deny entry with a K1. I don't like Miami because a lot of tourists go through and officers are grumpy (at least the ones I got). So I avoid Miami.

The only case on VJ I saw was of this guy who thought it was funny to say at the POE "we'll see if we will get married" when the officer asked if they would get married within 90 days. So unless your fiance says something silly, it should be fine.

It is not necessary to attend the interview or come with him. If you choose to, email the Embassy giving them his KINXXXXXX file number and ask if you can attend. Also, there are any number of questions they can ask....I think Jamaica is a High Fraud Country, so there could be many. DId you check the K1 tread on here for questions asked? Also, the Jamaica Embassy site might be helpful with the reviews

Just my 2 cents, my fiancee came over to the UK as I was leaving so that we could have a short holiday through Europe. We flew from Lisbon to Boston and she went through the same immigration line as me (by choice). We both went to the same Immigration agent and handed over our passports together along with my packet from the consulate. He looked everything over, reminded us we had 90 days to get married as per the papers, and sent us on our way after wishing us luck. The whole process was less than 5 minutes but that will not be the same for everyone.

Just thought I would share what happened to me.

I will tell you what I can remember from when I entered.

They asked me were I was headed. Told them Arkansas

I was asked if the guy sitting there was my HUSBAND. I automatically corrected them saying -we aren't married yet but yes he's my fiance. (they have been known to try and trip up K1 holders with this question. If I answered yes to the Husband question I could have been turned back)

I was asked when we were getting married. I told him at the end of the month (May) if I could wrangle a JP for then.

They went over all the ins and outs of my visa. Told me to stay away from borders but then said I shouldn't have a problem since there's none near Arkansas.

They were all pretty friendly. I say they because I had 4 k2's to process also. So 4 guys were processing the 5 of us.

The POE is not like the interview it's more relaxed but they can ask question and they do go through the package.
