Hi everyone.

Heavy hearted here.  After all of the blood, sweat and tears that went into obtaining this K1 visa, my former fiance and I have amicably decided not to get married.  I'll spare you the gritty details, but there were certain fundamental obstacles that we weren't able to overcome and made the decision to break up before getting any further.

This leaves us here.  I'm still in Canada, he is in the US.  I've received the K1 visa.  My former fiance and I have discussed having me come back to get some of my things, and he is in agreement with this.  We will not be getting married.

So my questions are these.  What do I need to be aware of?  What steps can I take to ensure that this does not jeopardize any future travels to the US?  I have family there and have traveled back and forth my whole life.  I realize that my entry to the US is not always a guarantee, but I'd like to make sure I have my bases covered.

I would appreciate any insight anyone may be able to offer.

I can't even imagine. Sorry for this but better you know now than later.

So you have the visa in hand. I would simply make an appointment with the US Embassy and tell them you wish to cancel the visa or it will self expire in 6 months I do believe from the date of issuance.

I would want it out or cancelled from my Passport as if ever you do come to USA the Immigration will want to know why it's there and what happened. Not that it is a bad thing but it might be a hassle for you later.

The petitioner and the beneficiary should write letters to USCIS Service Center and to the interviewing embassy/consulate, noting receipt  and case file numbers, explaining your desire to cancel your visa. Be sure to hold onto all correspondence received in conjunction with this cancellation as you may need it in the future when and if you do reapply.

Thanks for your response, and I do agree; it's better that we figured this out now than later.

Unfortunately the only US Embassy is on the other side of the country, so making an appointment is a lot easier said than done.  Fingers crossed that good 'ol fashioned snail mail will be an option.

This is a great piece of advice, and we will get right on that.  Much appreciated.
