Hi all!

me and my fiancé are putting our package together and we're stuck on how much message evidence to provide. We downloaded our Facebook chat history and once pasted into Word it came to 1500 pages so I don't think I can print that and send?!

When it comes to message evidence how much is good? One conversation a month? One conversation per day? The whole shebang?!

Also what about call logs? We use Facebook messenger calls to talk everyday and it would be really useful to be able to show this!

thank you!

Your embassy is an easy one. Unless you have red flags, I wouldn't even bother sending chat messages. If you do have red flags or just want to send them in, go over them and choose a few conversations spanning the whole period

Didn't even send ANY chat history. Lots of other things you can use, photos, birthday cards, christmas cards, boarding passes, itineraries etc etc.   If they need more info they will ask you but not everyone uses instant messenger or anything,  we used mainly Skype.

Zero message evidence is a good number. If you spoke Chinese and he spoke English, maybe just maybe somebody might want to know that you are able to communicate. You both speak English.

Focus on the required evidence as listed in the official I-129F instructions and maybe about six cute photos together.

We were in the same position you are where our conversation history was exceptionally long (primarily through iMessage). As other posters have mentioned, it seems the London Embassy is not stringent on how much to provide but here is what we sent through as part of our packet:

  • 12 total printed pages of conversation history being first page, last page, and select pages that showed planning to travel together or saying we love each other
  • 6 "couple" photos at obvious US and UK locations to show we had been together (Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Big Ben, Stonehenge etc.)
  • Call log that showed who called who and when (fit on 2 pages thanks to excel)
  • Facebook messenger (same as the iMessage history)
  • Photocopies of plane tickets
  • Photocopies of postcards or letters we had sent each other

We had approached it with the frame of mind that it is better to pre-load and give them as much evidence as possible so that there is no doubt in the assessing officers mind rather than to send to little and have to wade through an RFE.

However, as others above have said, London is not really an embassy that is super stringent for UK/USA relationships and they have recommended following the I-129F to the letter, just letting you know what we sent and what worked for us.

This worked for me:

  • Passport stamps from both
  • Boarding  passes from both with baggage tag copied on same page
  • Credit card statement with purchases in the other's town
  • ATM withdrawals in other's town or London
  • Six photos. London, with friends hanging out, with family.

No logs of any kind showing conversation. No Facebook "OMG, I'm engaged!!"

Still got a visa, greencard, US passport without a hitch.

This is not as hard as you are imagining.

At USCIS stage they only want to establish that you have met in the past 2 years.

Do not include any facebook message history or email history, etc... it will likely be ignored anyway. Don't you dare include 12 pages of conversation history... you'd be adding to the reason the system is unnecessarily slow.

Follow the above advice by @Wuozopo

Make your "circumstances of meeting" document short, to the point, and list as many dates as possible that you've met as well as HOW you met. Include the above evidence and you'll be fine.

For the record, we only sent a few messages spanning the time leading up to the application. I don't know if it made a difference, but we sailed through. I agree with Wuozopo, it IS nerve-wracking and and times frustrating, but not as difficult as it seems (for most embassies). Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply - just out of interest... you mention your call logs... how did you extract these? Or did you just literally enter the info from your phone into a spreadsheet??

I really want to be able to download my call log in a way that shows it's genuine, rather than typing something which i could have made up!

All of the calls made were on my iPhone, I used an extractor (there are numerous on the app store etc. and a similar thing can be done for android or windows) that allowed me to extract the relevant data regarding number dialed, date, call duration, which was exported to an excel spreadsheet. The app I used was I think iBackup which is more of a total backup application but you could also pull select data as well, such as calls to/from a specific phone number (rather than all calls made/received on your phone) as well as iMessage history (again for a select phone number) as well. We just printed that information off and sent it in. Just FYI, it doesn't have to be all on one phone, you can always extract from different phones and compile into one master list if you have used more than one phone.

As to the last sentence of your message, the app I used exported the data in a very simple csv format and it genuinely looked no different than if I had sat down and typed out the information myself but I did not encounter any problems with what we had submitted.

How would call logs establish you've met in the past 2 years?

Again, this is not needed whatsoever at the initial I129f stage.

If you want to get call logs from your phone company (for some reason) to bring to your interview to establish a relationship, then by all means do it then... but you don't need to submit this kind of info on the first application.

People are so afraid of getting an RFE, but it's not a big deal. I received 2 of them on my application. Delayed things about 2 weeks tops. If you do get an RFE and it asks for proof of an established relationship, I'd be shocked.

I can assure the OP that London will not look at call logs at an interview.

Hence the "for some reason". I think it's ridiculous. If a person wants to do it though, then as I said, by all means they can do it... but it won't benefit them in any way.

I've read quite a few posts where people have said that message history and call logs are not required... which I do appreciate as I understand this type of evidence is not required when sending the I-129F however I've also read many, many posts from people stating that front loading the I-129F can be beneficial.

The only reason I am so concerned about providing more than enough information is because we have a red flag due to age difference. I know that red flags can raise suspicion so I want to do everything I can to ensure that these suspicions are prevented.
