My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a house, Everything is cleared from the lender except for my husband's status. I am a US Citizen and he filed his removal of conditional in May this year and received his extension letter which expires 07/12/2018 and the bank wants a letter within a year of residency before our closing date or else they cannot give us our loan. They want us to file an extension to the uscis. Is that even possible? since he already got his extension letter and already did his finger printing done. The bank will not accept the extension letter he has right now since it is less than a year of residency. What should we do to provide the bank what their asking? If I call the uscis I don't think they will write a letter of extension with a different date. I'm soo stress out and I don't know what to do. His extension of at least a year is what holding us for our loan. Any suggestions? or anyone had a similar situation? Thanks in advance

Yeah, try to find another bank. Technically, someone does not need to be a citizen nor a permanent resident to get a mortgage. Many places do not even ask about your status.

Another thing you could do is to have your name on the mortgage and make an amendment later, as long as it does not affect the interest rate. You could ask the bank if they allow to do this.
