Requirements for Family Importing Furniture On My Behalf

Hey VJers!

I moved to the US from Canada in December last year on a K1 Visa, my husband and I married in January and applied for AOS in February. I have received my work/travel document but am still waiting on the Green Card.

When I moved I brought most of my stuff, however changes in my family has resulted in me being required to take my furniture now. I have a bed, side tables, a coffee table, a sofa, two reclining arm chairs, a china cabinet, a BBQ, kitchen stuff, and a tv stand. So there is a substantial amount of stuff I still need to bring.

I cannot get the time away from my new job to drive up to Canada to get my furniture, so my parents have offered to drive it down for me. My question is, what do I need to provide them to ensure they clear CBP with all of my belongings?

I figured I would send them:

- a photocopy of my EAD/AP card

- a copy of my NOA1 stating my AOS is currently processing

- a notarized letter giving them power of attorney to import my belongings on my behalf

- a list of all the belongings they are importing on my behalf

Is there anything else I should give them that might make it easier? Do I have to fill out CBP form 3299/should they fill it out because they are technically the ones importing it? Should they get letters from their employers stating their return date to work?

Any advice on what I should give them or experiences would be great!

Thank you!

Hey!

When my family brought my belongings down from Canada, I sent them proof of my status in the US, a copy of my passport, a notarized letter specifically listing their names, and the CBP form with a detailed itemized list.

You need to fill in the CBP form as it requires your signature, and you have to list the items on it. What I did was put the furniture items on the actual form, and then wrote 'see attached list' for everything else.

Hope that helps!
