Trump is winning at losing. LOL.

New G.O.P. Battle Begins as Republicans Look to Pass a Budget

WASHINGTON — Reeling from the collapse of their plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Republican lawmakers are now trying to move on quickly to the next big thing: tax legislation.

On Tuesday, they took the first step with a budget proposal that calls for reducing tax rates for businesses and individuals.

But the failure of the health care plan complicates Republican efforts to overhaul the tax code. It also adds to the urgency Republicans face to secure a signature achievement in President Trump’s first year in office. For months, Republican leaders in Congress have said that it was crucial to cut the taxes imposed by President Barack Obama’s health care law so that they could introduce even deeper income tax cuts later on.

In fairness I dont think the Republican's problem on this topic is Trump specifically. I think the "Republican Party" has sort of devolved into a number of smaller parties that are still "grouped up" together in essentially name only. They aren't acting like a single party.

I'm not sure what Trump can really do. Even the most charismatic Presidents would have trouble getting them to tow the line I think. At some point they need to either fall back in line or a group needs to splinter off and form their own party. I know they fear that because they would lose the "majority", but they don't really have a majority of people agreeing anyway right now.

Our country has lived for so long with 2 primary political parties I'm not even exactly sure how it would work.

It took Obamacare over two years to pass. Saying the Republicans failed because they didn't repeal it overnight is pretty absurd.

Unless there is a new update from today, from what the public was being told yesterday it seems like they are "giving up" on a replacement bill. They are moving to "repealing" only at this point (and even that won't be a full repeal).

So while they haven't failed yet by any means, they are definitely having to "compromise" on what they consider success. Even if they do pass a "repeal" bill they can't then celebrate and say "Hey this is what we wanted to do in the first place!". I'm sure Paul Ryan will try though.

I love alternate facts:

7 years = overnight

losing = winning

Thanks for the laugh!

LOL exactly! They had SEVEN years to come up with a bill. They chose not to for that entire time because it was easier to just scream Repeal and Replace. They still don't know how to govern.

Two years plus filibuster proof Senate, something GOP doesn't have.

It's funny watching people argue things like they're standing from the fan seats at a football game instead of talking about national politics.

Has there been a filibuster on the GOP healthcare reform? Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention.

I don't think they're aware of Reconciliation, which requires only a simple majority in the Senate to stop a Filibuster.

The GOP had the tracks laid out in front of them to repeal Obamacare and they crashed the train!

You're not, it's an automatic imply that any Obamacare repeal includes a filibuster, so minimum threshold would be 60 Senate votes.

A threshold of 60 would only matter if they have over an initial threshold of 51.

Worrying about a filibuster is pretty pointless until you have a simple majority. I was under the impression they haven't reached that point yet.

Even if they did it's moot, of the 48 caucusing Dems, there's more than a few dozen who would filibuster any repeal effort of Obamacare.
