Question About Military Records, Vaccinations and Tax Documents in Costa Rica

Hi, everyone!

My fiance should be able to schedule an interview soon in Costa Rica, and we are working hard to get everything worked out and collected before then. We have a few questions.

1) At the Costa Rican embassy, are military records (from Costa Rica and other countries of citizenship before) required to be submitted at the interview? It doesn't say anything regarding bringing military records in directions for Costa Rica that I've seen, but in other places I'm seeing that it's required for all country's embassies. Is this true? I'm asking because it would likely be extremely difficult verging on impossible to get them, and if they weren't required that would be amazing.

2) In Costa Rica, are all vaccinations required to be given before the interview, or can the two or three that might be needed be given once he's arrived in the United States? Again, I've seen that this is dependent on the individual country/embassy's regulations and don't know where Costa Rica stands on that. Also, I see that the influenza vaccine(s) are given when it is "flu season." Does this mean flu season in the USA, or flu season in Costa Rica? If it means Costa Rica's flu season, would that be year around because it's the tropics, or do they actually have some official dates on that?

3) Can anyone give an estimate about the statistics of K1 approvals vs. denials at the Costa Rican embassy? Where does CR stand in terms of being seen as a high or low fraud country? I would assume it would be pretty low, but I've never heard much about it one way or the other.

EDITED TO ADD:

4) When it says tax forms/documents are required to be brought to the interview, is that for the US citizen, the beneficiary, or both?

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you can shed some light on these issues for us!

1) No idea.

2) K-1 can get their vaccines at K-1 medical OR in the US before AOS. Flu season wise, my guess is the US.

3) No idea either.

4) US petitioner's tax transcripts or related supporting documents for the I-134. They wanna know your income and ability to support your beneficiary to not end up becoming a public charge.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Not a problem. Now let's wait for others to respond about the CR specific questions :)

Btw, if vaccinations are cheaper in CR, your beneficiary might wanna get them done there instead of the US. Also, make sure he/she asks for a copy of the DS-3025 for your own record because you'll need it for AOS.

That's good information about the DS-3025, thank you! We are actually concerned about the vaccine in CR because we think that it might be less safe to get them there. Maybe it's an unnecessary concern, but there is a question in our minds about the effectiveness and sterility of different medical procedures there based on some previous experiences.

This is new question, but I was just reading that if there is a sputum test needed it will take at least two months to even see the results? Is that true in every country?

Thank you again.

If you are not 100% confident with getting vaccines in CR, it's OK to do it in the US. You can go to any civil surgeon for that and have them transcribe everything onto the I-693.

I think it takes 60 days before seeing any result in the culture test. Is there a high possibility of your beneficiary needing it? If not, don't stress yourself out :) If it's needed, just get it done and your visa issuance will just be delayed because of that. Between that and AP, I would take that since AP could span longer than that if there are any issues during background checks. LOL.

Great, it's nice to know we have the option of getting it in the US!

I'm not sure if there's a high probability, really. I just know that he used to be a smoker for many years, and I don't know what they're looking for on the X-ray. I don't know if they're watching for something really specific to TB, or if anything looking even slightly unusual might be cause for a sputum test.

I actually thought background checks were mostly done at this point. So another delay to need to worry about, I guess. :P I'm just very concerned because I was actually living with him for almost two years since we met, and I had to fly home late last month in emergency mode because of heart problems. I can't even go back because it's taking forever to get me to a specialist and I'm not cleared to fly. We're having a really hard time being apart, especially with everything going on with my health. We were December filers, and the wait has been extremely hard. The idea of being delayed another long amount of time is just gut wrenching.

There are plenty of background checks that go around during the process. It's kinda crazy :) Sorry to hear about your heart problem but he will be there with you soon!
