Which documents need to bring parent to the US?

I am about to file immigration for my parent to come to the US. My questions are:

1. How many years for tax returns that you have to include in there?

2. How you determine household size? For example: just me and my parent, so is that counted as 3 on Poverty Household?

3. I-864 form: should I include it in the package or wait until they ask for?

Please help and thank you everyone.

Hi Andocjourney,:D

Answers to your questions are in green:

1. How many years for tax returns that you have to include in there?

The form asks for only the latest tax transcript, but also gives you the option to include the 2 years before that. (In my case, I'm including ALL 3 so that way they can see I am well over the guideline).

2. How you determine household size? For example: just me and my parent, so is that counted as 3 on Poverty Household?

Because you are by yourself, and for each parent, remember you must do ONE (1) form for each. So on each form you only include yourself and one parent, therefore your household size should be listed a 2.

3. I-864 form: should I include it in the package or wait until they ask for?

WAIT until they ask for it. I know we all want to get ahead but its not going to do you any good by sending it in at the same time as your initial paperwork. So once you are up to that step, then go ahead and submit it.

Hope this helps! Good luck to you! Deidre :D

Thank you for answering my questions. However, you make me have more questions for you 😅

1. My latest tax seems the one which is qualified for 125% Poverty household. The other years are lower. If i include it, will it affect my parent's case?

2. I am little confused. So they dont count as 3, do they? for example, right now it is around $16000 for one and plus $5000 for addtional person. So I just need $21000? Even for both my parent?

Thank you

Hi Andocjourney, :D

No worries!

1. My latest tax seems the one which is qualified for 125% Poverty household. The other years are lower. If i include it, will it affect my parent's case?

If the other years are lower, IMO I wouldn't include them. It "shouldn't" hurt the process as NVC should only take into account your current tax transcript figure. But if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't include them.

2. I am little confused. So they dont count as 3, do they? for example, right now it is around $16000 for one and plus $5000 for addtional person. So I just need $21000? Even for both my parent?

That's correct - NO they DONT count as 3. (would make literal sense tho wouldn't it LOL). So that is correct, based on $16K for one and $5K for additional one person  = $21K. I know if sounds weird but they treat each application separately. So as long as your last year tax transcript shows OVER $21K, you are good. Remember that the person at NVC could be different people processing, even though the papers could be sent in the one envelope, they treat one application as just that one application.

Wow it is great. I always think that the poverty household will be count as 3 😅. So i have been really worry and thinkin about finding sponsor. Did you do that for your parent or is your tax over the requirement? Are you sure about the information? I am sorry 😐, but I just want to make sure (because my parent need to come to the US before my brother turns 21 so....) thank u so much

I'm well over the guidelines, so no sponsor needed and will also provide them with 3 years tax transcripts because I've had a high income for all 3 of them.

Also, I'll be submitting the i-864ez form. And will be listing 2 for household on each form :)
