Hi guys im currently looking at an F1 entry but if i can get on a job with a H1B for my MS Azure qualifications that would be brill...

I searched for H1B job board but every job on the sites im finding are stating "NO H1B sponsorship"

Basically anyone know of any good sites out there?

They almost all say that because the H1B cap has already been reached this year so they can't sponsor anyone else to come here on that visa. Basically with the H1B visa they lowered the cap this year and the cap ran out a few days later.

I've never heard of any type of website like that.

It is hard to get a job without living in the US first because they would be taking a big chance on someone. It would have to be something much more specific that Microsoft Azure for someone to bring you to the US; something like data science/machine learning/etc. for which there is a real shortage of people with graduate degrees and years of experience, for instance.

H1B is even harder because there is a lottery to get one (application > slots), so a company would not pay to have an H1B application and then not get it. As I said, someone has to have some very attractive profile.

An F1, are you thinking of graduate studies? That seems a better route and you can do an OPT after and work. Plus, during OPT a company would have more opportunity to apply for an H1B.

No F1 as in my dad is american and he is in CA so a Family sponsorship but thats like a 7 year wait

I'm a technical architect so I deal with AWS, Azure etc etc.

Before the Donald got into office my company moved a lot of people into the US via H1-B (we employ 55,000+ across 60 offices across the world). Now, no one moves. The cost is too great and their skills (including mine) aren't that specific or hard to come by in the US, thus making it difficult to get approved.

If you were a Platform Owner or CTO you may strike lucky but with the skills you've mentioned I don't think that even scratches the surface.

The money I earn is fantastic, however as many people will say; the days are long here and if you work in a "at will" state like I do in Colorado, you can be fired at a seconds notice with no reason and no severance/redundancy pay. I'd much rather be working back home in the UK where the work/life balance and generous vacation time etc is better.

Best of luck to you though.

Oh, ok.

Well, you could do a Masters and live with your dad. If you could live with him that would basically cover your living costs. You could look at masters in the area and see tuition costs. Some people take student loans but it depends on the tuition cost.

If you do a Master with an F1 visa in computer science or related area you have 2 years of OPT (practical training). Basically you can work for 2 years and most people I know got H1B visas because the company they were working for had 2 years to apply for it, hence more chances in the lottery. There are a lot of Masters programs, like if you are interested in cloud computing it seems that will be the next big thing.

Or you could try working for an American company in the UK. After a year you can get transferred to the US with an L1. It depends on the company though, if they want to do this and if they need you in the US.

Thanks mate, i appriciate your reply. Im currently a Microsoft Consultant for BT specialising in Azure and O365. We have a BT global services divisiion over there which pay 3 times my salary over there for the same role its bonkers. I know the americans get lesser home life etc. (to be fair im waiting for some share to come good through some RNS' and i wouldnt need to work) but id have to work as i need the sponsorship. lose lose situation. Guess my only option is the 7 year family route :(

Yeah I definitely earn at least double what I did in the U.K! However I get up at 5am each day and don't get home til 5/6pm in the evening and I get 15 days a year vacation allowance and zero sick pay! Also $520 out of my paycheck goes towards health insurance for me and my wife which also sucks.

If someone offered me a job back home (and if I wasn't in the middle of getting my green card) I'd move back to the U.K. in a second. Seriously! It sounds corny and patronizing but I'd much rather take a pay cut and be at home more and have some security and benefits etc.

Wait, so you already work for a company that has offices in the US? Ask them to transfer you to the US. They can do an L1. At first they might not pay you 3 times the salary, but they raise salaries pretty quick. I know people who did the L1 route.

The salary in the USA for tech stuff usually is a lot more compared to the UK. A friend of mine worked at Oracle USA upon graduation (bachelors degree) and then after working for 3-4 years in the USA, he requested for transfer to the UK. His UK salary, albeit he is an experienced tech person now, is way lower than his first salary in the USA! Imagine that.

But yeah, you cannot be easily fired if you are in the UK, and NHS is fantastic (relative to the option they have in the USA).

Companies vary a lot in the health insurance they provide. My husband's insurance has been fantastic but he switched companies and for that new company it was a disaster. After a year he switched back to his previous job (they had been trying to get him back) and one of the issues that he really missed was the health insurance. Basically, the "bad" health insurance was one based on health saving account.

He is a software engineer.

My health insurance has worked pretty good too.

The only issue is if you have an actual health problem, like cancer. If that were the happen, I'd probably move back home.

If they were to tranfer me  do they need to go through all the solicitor stuff? as all the jobs on the board state must have authorization to work

The US branch will have to hire a lawyer to do the paperwork for the L1. Is that what you are asking about?

What is the board state?

They are country wide... id prefer to move to FL

Does the L1 count in the limitations of work visas already closed for this year?
