Hey guys!

I was wondering whether it would be worth sending off for the work permit now.

My priority date is October 14 2016. We foolishly didn't send off for the work permit since we didn't really know what we were doing in regards to the paperwork and just winged it! Since we got married out of nowhere we weren't prepared for the paperwork. Since we moved from Vermont to Massachusetts we were given bad advice by our attorney, which was that our interview would remain in Vermont... it didn't. It has been rescheduled in Vermont. Now the file should have been forwarded to Boston to be rescheduled.

is it worth sending off for the work permit now? I've been out of work for a long time and need to go back just for something to do.

Will it cost anything?

Am I able to take classes or volunteer while adjusting status?

Thank you so much for your insight!

As far as I know, if you file for it wile your I-485 is pending you don't have to pay fee (I could be wrong)...but the EAD is taking about 3 to 4 months to be adjudicated so since you're only waiting for your interview, I don't think that it worth it, your interview and decision date will probably happen sooner than your EAD would take to be approved.

Good luck!
