Working for a UK company after US move - tax question

This may not come to anything so just looking for advice really.

I work for a UK company with remote workers around the World which sounds grander than it is. They are all on a few hours a week doing work for the company I work for in their respective countries. I can’t elaborate as I have just sent in my I-129F and will be moving on my K1 probably after Christmas and my employer are not aware of this. Yet.

When I move, I know that I will be out of work for a time but if there is a chance I could keep working for them even part time I’d like to do this and stay employed.

But can I? Once my K1 is approved I believe I need to renounce all my bank accounts etc, so my current account for sure. I cannot work in the US without the work permit.

Without pointing me at a very complicated taxation site as I have a very simple mind, could I potentially not have to hand my notice in, work for a UK company and somehow declare my tax in the US? Would I get taxed twice even by the UK payroll and then have to submit US tax filing?

If it’s not impossible, I’m thinking of approaching my employer nearer the time of approval to see what my options are.

Does anyone else work for a Uk firm but reside in the US?

Thanks

If the best things in life are free, why is a long distance relationship so expensive!?

I am very interested in answers to this question

as i see it even working online for a foreign company, you have to pay taxes on income earned here in the US

and that requires a SS # and / or green card

anyone know???

I’m glad it isn’t just me, it opens up questions about HOW they’d pay me if I couldnt keep my UK bank account and if I’d be breaking any laws without a SS even though its a UK company. I’d pay US tax if I needed to as this is preferable to being unemployed and having to quit even paying tax twice....i think! Might not have much left lol!

Why cant you keep your UK accounts?

Not all banks let you have an overseas address. I need to research it more as I would like to keep money in an ISA but not sure I can with tax side of things. I think I can if I dont top it up.

Accessing UK money from the US will be problematic so as soon as I get a US bank account i’ll look to move it over with as few charges as i can find on transfers!

With this particular post, my salary goes into a current account and most current accounts have to have a minimum monthly deposit going in (i.e a salary) so if I was to work for the UK firm but live in the US i’m not sure how this woukd work.

I have yet see anybody repot having an issue with an overseas address, I certainly have not.

I access my account same way as I did in the UK, on line.

Obviously depends on your account, my current account does not have a minimum monthly, best to get this sort of thing sorted as once you are here it will be very difficult to set up a new UK account if you need one.
