I came to the U.S on March 20th on the K1 visa, we got married March 26th, and a few weeks later filed for my Adjustment of Status and Employment Authorization.

They received everything on April 21st and it is my understanding that you receive your Employment Authorization within 90 days.  90 days will be this Thursday July 20th and I still have not received anything in the mail.  Has anyone else had experience with receiving it later than the 90 days?

Also, what are the steps once I do receive it? Do they send you a specific card? Do I get a Social Security number right away with it?  Can I start working immediately after receiving it in the mail?

Thanks!

They will send you an EAD card. You're good to work when you have the card in hand.

You're supposed to apply for a SSN yourself. USCIS won't send you one.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Since January the 90 days is more a goal than an actual processing time. It's now between 90-120 days for approval and once received in the mail (mostly 7-9 business days) you can go to the SSA office with the card and marriage certificate if you want to change your name and apply for a SSN. The ssn card will be in  the mail within 7 business days too.

You can contact the USCIS customer service 800 number after the 90-day mark to do a service request for your employment authorization document. This should prompt its approval/production within a week or two.

It will be a card, and you can take it to the social security office to apply for a social security card/number. You can work immediately after receiving it in the mail.

edit: My bad: the 90-day regulation has been removed as of January like the other poster said. They may not let you do a service request for it.

Most K1's get their SSN as their first document soon after arriving.

Where on the USCIS website does it now say 90-120 days?  I just called and they did a service request since it is nearing the 90 days.

I didn't know I could apply for a Social Security Number... for some reason I thought I had to wait until I had my employment authorization card.

But now the date on my I-94 is expired....

1) As a K-1, you could have applied for a social security number in your maiden name in the first week of your arrival as it is your right to have one. It's not a big deal so much if you don't plan on doing a lot right away.

2) The 90-120 day estimate is based on what we see here the past months on VJ. It is still your right to put in a service request after the 75th day, though.

From the USCIS website;

Eliminate the regulatory provision that requires USCIS to adjudicate the Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, within 90 days of filing
